Bears GM Ryan Pace said Sunday that TE Trey Burton (groin) will not be placed on the PUP list to open training camp. Pace added, though, that the team "will be careful" with Burton early in camp. The 27-year-old TE missed spring workouts after undergoing sport-hernia surgery, but he should be a full-go come Week 1 barring a setback. Burton finished 8th among TEs in PPR points in his Bears debut last year.

Bears TE Trey Burton had sports-hernia surgery earlier this offseason, HC Matt Nagy revealed on Wednesday. It's unclear if it was related to the groin injury that sidelined Burton for Chicago's playoff loss to the Eagles. Nagy said "the hope" is that Burton will be ready for the start of training camp in July. We'll keep an eye on him. Burton finished as PPR TE8 in his debut season with the Bears.

Bears TE Trey Burton (groin) is inactive for today's game against the Eagles. He was added to the injury report on Saturday, but we have no further details on his status beyond this week. Burton's absence leaves Adam Shaheen as Chicago's lead pass-catching TE. Note that Philly finished 4th in Adjusted Fantasy Points Allowed to TEs this season.

The Bears are set to sign TE Trey Burton to a 4-year, $32 million deal, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. It's a significant investment in a guy who's flashed potential. Burton has just 63 career catches, but 60 of those have come over the past 2 seasons. He posted lines of 2-41-1 and 5-71-2 in 2 games TE Zach Ertz missed this past year. We'll see how Burton fits in alongside 2017 2nd-rounder Adam Shaheen. Chicago has now added Burton and WR Allen Robinson for 2nd-year QB Mitchell Trubisky.
