Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders ran in cleats on Friday for the 1st time since tearing his Achilles in December, NFL Network's James Palmer reports. "He’s coming along nicely," Palmer adds. Achilles injuries are notoriously difficult to return from -- especially for a 32-year-old WR like Sanders. We're still considering him questionable for Week 1 and are generally avoiding him in early fantasy drafts. Denver has a pair of young, promising WRs in Courtland Sutton and DaeSean Hamilton who should claim big roles this season.

The Broncos on Tuesday exercised their 2019 option on WR Emmanuel Sanders. That keeps the veteran wideout around for the final year of his contract at a cap hit of about $12.9 million. GM John Elway had previously said the team planned to do so. The big remaining question for Sanders, of course, is how he'll rebound from his December Achilles' tear. That situation makes Sanders not worth the risk in early best-ball drafting. We'll see how soon he gets back onto the field. Denver sports a pair of intriguing 2nd-year wideouts in Courtland Sutton and DaeSean Hamilton.

The Broncos have placed WR Emmanuel Sanders on IR after an MRI confirmed a torn left Achilles. It's a massive loss for a team with playoff aspirations. Sanders leads Denver in all major receiving categories, accounting for 23.7% of the team's targets, 27.5% of the catches, 29.0% of the receiving yards and 26.7% of the receiving TDs. Sanders' target share rose to 28.6% without Demaryius Thomas over the past 4 games. So there's a lot of meat on the bone for WRs Courtland Sutton, DaeSean Hamilton and Tim Patrick to pick. Sutton is easily the best target bet going forward and looks like a weekly WR3 with upside the rest of the way. Hamilton is worth adding in deeper leagues -- although it's getting late in the season to be rolling the dice on a guy like him.

Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders injured his left leg in Wednesday's practice. "Not putting any weight on his left leg. Not good," The Athletic's Nicki Jhabvala tweeted. We'll update Sanders' status when we learn more, but he obviously appears to be in danger of missing this weekend's game against the 49ers. His absence would leave Courtland Sutton as Denver's #1 WR, with DaeSean Hamilton and Tim Patrick behind him on the depth chart.

Update: ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the team believes Sanders tore his Achilles. That'd be a season-ending injury. We'll look for confirmation.

Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders (heel) is not listed on the final injury report. He was added on Thursday as a limited practice participant and limited again on Friday. But being left off the final report means the heel isn’t a major concern. Sanders remains a rock-solid WR2.

Injury Predictor

Sanders added another 2 injuries in 2017, brining his NFL tally to 16 documented issues over 8 seasons. He lost 4 games to ankle problems last year: a midseason sprain and then a December bone bruise -- both on the right side. Two seasons before, a left ankle sprain cost him a game. Sanders enters 2018 healthy at age 31 and looks like a value in fantasy football drafts. Rookie WR Courtland Sutton adds target competition that has been missing beyond the top 2 wideouts in Denver.
