re-signs with Seahawks

DT Brandon Mebane elected to stay in Seattle despite a shot at unrestricted free agency. The 5th-year player was disgruntled before the lockout over the Seahawks not making more of an effort to lock him up. Money cures, though. Mebane has proved a good interior player and has some slight IDP upside. He posted 5.5 sacks back in 2008 but has totaled just 2.5 since. He has only once reached 40 tackles in a season and missed 5 games over the past 2 years.

Eric Williams of The (Tacoma) News Tribune thinks DT Brandon Mebane will re-sign with Seattle. Before any Seahawks fans get excited, though, this seems purely the writer's opinion based on how much the team needs him. Mebane has said he's miffed that the team hasn't made more of an effort to keep him and appears ready to test the market. Seattle will likely have to outbid all other suitors to retain him. Even his position coach left after the season for the University of Florida. Mebane is a good player who figures to draw plenty of attention. We think he seems more likely to leave as a free agent. Wherever he lands, Mebane will bring the stat upside of a 5.5-sack season when last he played 16 games (2008). He also tallied 49 tackles over 15 games in 2009.
