The Bills have shipped QB Cardale Jones to the Chargers in exchange for a conditional 7th-round pick. Jones was drafted by Buffalo's old regime and was 4th on the depth chart this spring. He'll battle for backup duties in Los Angeles -- with an outside shot of becoming Philip Rivers' eventual successor. The Bills are left with T.J. Yates and rookie Nathan Peterman behind Tyrod Taylor.

The Bills nabbed QB Cardale Jones with the final pick of the 4th round of the 2016 draft. Jones surfaced late in the 2014 season, completing 61.3% of his passes for 742 yards, 5 TDs and 2 INTs in 3 wins to lead Ohio State to a national championship. He took a step back this past year, though, and eventually lost the starting job. His consistency and coverage-reading need work, but Jones has the size (6’5, 253 pounds) and arm talent to develop into an NFL starter. He’s no threat to Tyrod Taylor’s starting job this season but could enter the mix in 2017. Taylor has 1 just year left on his current contract.
