Cowboys TE Gavin Escobar tore his Achilles in Saturday night's loss to the Jets. That ends his 2015 season and makes him very iffy for the start of the 2016 campaign. Escobar is an intriguing 6'6, 260-pound prospect who's been stuck behind future Hall-of-Famer Jason Witten for the past 3 years. He has just 26 career catches, but 7 of them have gone for TDs. We'll track his recovery this offseason, but Escobar probably won't be draftable next summer even if Witten hangs up the cleats.

Cowboys insider Todd Archer expects TE Gavin Escobar's red-zone role to grow with WR Dez Bryant sidelined. "Bryant is an unstoppable red zone threat, but I think the Cowboys will look to Escobar in close now with his 6-6 frame and ability to go get the ball," Archer said. Seven of Escobar's 20 career catches have gone for scores. And he posted a strong 13.9% TD rate in college. We'll see if Escobar's role grows enough outside the 20 to be a reliable fantasy play, but he might be worth stashing now in deep and TE-premium leagues like the FFPC.

Cowboys TE Gavin Escobar left Saturday's 2nd preseason contest with a left shoulder injury. ESPN Dallas reports that the team plans further evaluation Sunday but that HC Jason Garrett said, "We don't think it's going to be too, too serious." We'll await the official diagnosis. Escobar obviously isn't much of a fantasy prospect on his own but could make for an interesting waiver target if Jason Witten were to go down.

Cowboys insider Todd Archer nominates TE Gavin Escobar as the team's most improved player in 2014. Escobar played just 20% of Dallas' offensive snaps last year, finishing with 9 catches on 15 targets for 134 yards and 2 TDs. His blocking remains a problem, but Archer expects the coaching staff to do a better job taking advantage of his strengths. Those would be getting downfield and catching the football. Escobar goes 6'6, 254 pounds with good speed and athleticism. He totaled 1,323 yards and 13 scores in his final 2 college seasons. Escobar should be an asset for QB Tony Romo in 2014, but it's tough to see him emerging as a reliable fantasy option without an injury to Jason Witten.
