Browns LB Jacob Phillips suffered a torn pectoral muscle in Sunday's loss to the Ravens. That will require surgery and end his season, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. It also clears the path for Deion Jones to take over his job, which might have been en route anyway. Jones is worth claiming in many IDP leagues this week.
Jones not expected to play vs. Patriots
The Browns aren't expected to play newly acquired LB Deion Jones against the Patriots today, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. That clears the path for Jacob Phillips and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah to continue leading the position in playing time. We'll look for more on Jones' expected role once he does take the field.
Phillips Likely Done for Season
Browns LB Jacob Phillips suffered a torn biceps tendon Thursday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. That likely ends the season for the 2nd-year LB. Phillips had been competing for a starting job in a fairly open Cleveland LB corps. With him out, Mack Wilson, Sione Takitaki and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah will compete for OLB spots.
Walker joining Browns
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that LB Anthony Walker is signing a 1-year, $3.5 million deal with the Browns. That's not necessarily starter money, but Walker should compete for starter-level playing time in a shaky and unproven Cleveland LB corps. Walker was a solid player for the Colts, though he's coming off his worst overall Pro Football Focus grade through 4 seasons (by far). Walker also ceded the #2 LB role to Bobby Okereke in 2020. We'll see how the Browns' group shakes out.
