McKenzie questionable for Week 5
Bills WR Isaiah McKenzie (concussion) is listed as questionable for this weekend's game vs. the Steelers. He got in limited practices on Thursday and Friday but still has work to do to clear protocol. We should get another update on McKenzie by Sunday morning. With WR Jamison Crowder and Jake Kumerow out with their ankle injuries, McKenzie's absence would leave rookie Khalil Shakir as Buffalo's #3 WR.
Bills keep Kumerow
The Bills have reached a 1-year deal to retain WR Jake Kumerow, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Kumerow has caught just 3 total passes while appearing in 21 games for Buffalo over the past 2 years. So he's a long way from fantasy relevance.
Funchess opts out
Packers WR Devin Funchess has opted out of the 2020 season. He looked like Allen Lazard's biggest competition for the #2 WR job. Now Lazard will just need to hold off Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Jake Kumerow and Equanimeous St. Brown. We'll see how the depth chart shakes out over the next month, but we're bumping Lazard up the WR rankings. Davante Adams, of course, is set to dominate targets in Green Bay again.
Packers adding Funchess
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that the Packers are "expected" to sign WR Devin Funchess. The former Panther and Colt appeared in just 1 game for Indy last season before succumbing to a broken clavicle. Funchess would now join a Packers offense that saw Davante Adams dominate targets in 2019. Adams drew 127 in just 12 regular-season games. Aaron Jones ranked 2nd at just 68 looks, with Jimmy Graham behind him at 60. Graham has left for Chicago, and #4 Marquez Valdes-Scantling saw his playing time disintegrate late last season. In short, there's clear opportunity for Funchess. He should compete for the outside job opposite Davante Adams, with Jake Kumerow, MVS and Equanimeous St. Brown as current competition. We'll see what else the Packers add to the corps this offseason.
Adams doubtful for Week 8
Packers WR Davante Adams (toe) is listed as doubtful for Sunday night's game against the Chiefs. It's at least an upgrade over the past 3 weeks, when Adams was ruled out on Friday. He seemingly has a shot to return for Week 9. With Adams out last week, the snaps rates for Packers WRs went: Allen Lazard 84%, Jake Kumerow 71%, Geronimo Allison 55%, Marquez Valdes-Scantling 34%. Allison and MVS are healthier now, but it's uncertain if they'll play more on Sunday night. We'd try to avoid this situation in what figures to be a run-leaning game plan for Green Bay.
