The Chargers have claimed QB Zach Mettenberger, who was released yesterday by the Titans. He's reuniting with OC Ken Whisenhunt, who was Tennessee's HC when Mettenberger was drafted 2 years ago. In San Diego, he'll compete with Kellen Clemens for the right to backup Philip Rivers. The Chargers might be hoping to develop Mettenberger into Rivers' eventual replacement.
Clemens to start
It's no surprise, but the Rams have officially announced that QB Kellen Clemens will start their Monday night contest in Week 8. The backup draws Seattle in his 1st start of the season, about the worst possible matchup for any QB. It'll be tough to like anyone on the St. Louis offense for fantasy football purposes in that one. On the bright side, at least we weren't expecting much even with Sam Bradford in there.
Confirmed: Bradford has torn ACL
Multiple sources report that an MRI on Rams QB Sam Bradford's knee revealed a torn ACL. He's done for the season. Bradford still has 2 years left on his rookie deal, but don't be surprised if St. Louis shops around for a QB this offseason. Bradford has flashed at times but hasn't met expectations of a #1 overall pick. QB Kellen Clemens is next up on St. Louis' depth chart. The 30-year-old made 3 starts in place of Bradford back in 2011, completing 53% of his passes for 546 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT. Don't bother adding Clemens to your fantasy roster. Rookie RB Zac Stacy figures to be the focal point of the Rams offense the rest of the way.
Rams "fear" a torn ACL for Bradford
The Rams "fear" QB Sam Bradford tore his ACL in Sunday's loss to the Panthers. That'd end his season. Bradford is undergoing an MRI tonight, but all signs point to a serious injury. Next up on St. Louis' depth is Kellen Clemens, who would be a significant downgrade. Insider Michael Silver hears that the Rams have "internally discussed" adding ... wait for it ... Tim Tebow. Silver adds that a Tebow signing is "highly unlikely."
Bradford has left knee injury
Rams HC Jeff Fisher confirmed that QB Sam Bradford suffered a left knee injury in Sunday's loss to the Panthers. "He was in significant pain on the sideline," Fisher added. Bradford crumbled to the ground on the play and needed to be carted back to the locker room. This has the feel of a significant injury. Bradford will undergo additional testing tonight. We should get an update tomorrow. Kellen Clemens would step in as St. Louis' starting QB if Bradford misses time.
