ESPN reports that the league expects to review Broncos LB Von Miller's appeal in mid-August.  News leaked this week that Miller faces a 4-game ban under the league substance-abuse policy, but the player has claimed no wrongdoing.  The Denver Post has reported that Miller tested positive for amphetamines and marijuana as a 2011 rookie, but we don't know the substance in question this time.  An August appeal date should clarify the situation before the regular season, but it won't do so before many of us draft our fantasy football teams.  For now, we'll have to stick with drafting Miller near his normal position in your IDP league.  He's such a special talent that we're willing to put up with a few missed weeks.  Of course, you'll also have to grab some insurance.  And the uncertainty might be enough to swing the balance if you're weighing him against another defender on draft day.

Recent Shark Bites

Broncos OLB Von Miller (knee) is active for today's game against the Texans. It's an upside sack matchup for the pass rusher, though there's also still risk to Miller's injury situation. Fellow OLB Malik Reed (ankle) is inactive for the game.

Broncos OLB Von Miller is "trending in the right direction" but still no lock to return for today's game against the Texans, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. ESPN's Adam Schefter, meanwhile, reports that Denver expects Miller to play. Miller's knee injury cost him last week's game, the 1st he had missed since 2013. We'll update his status later this morning, when the inactives come out. But even an active Miller looks like a risky IDP bet this week.

Broncos OLB Von Miller (knee) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Texans. Miller put in limited practices all week. We'll check his status Sunday. Fellow OLB starter Malik Reed (ankle) is also questionable. He started the week not practicing but put in limited workouts Thursday and Friday.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Broncos OLB Von Miller is "considered 50/50" to play through his knee injury against the Chargers today, "though it's trending in the right direction." That obviously points to Miller likely playing, but he'll be a low-floor option for IDP lineups.

Broncos OLB Von Miller (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Chiefs. HC Vance Joseph said Miller will be in the lineup, though, according to Pro Football Talk. If you're planning to use Miller, then he should be good to go. LB Brandon Marshall (knee) is also questionable. He has become a weak IDP contributor.
