Niles Paul is listed as the starting TE on the Redskins' initial depth chart.  "That's how it's been playing out in practices too," insider John Keim adds.  This might be at least partly because TE Jordan Reed missed most of the offseason after undergoing knee surgery.  But Paul showed well last year, averaging 13.0 yards on his 39 grabs, and then signed a new 3-year deal with the Redskins in March.  This will be a situation to keep a close eye on this preseason.  Paul and Reed both have the ability to be major fantasy factors in the lead role.

Recent Shark Bites

Jaguars TE Niles Paul sprained his MCL in Sunday's loss to the Cowboys, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The injury figures to cost Paul multiple weeks. With TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins (core) on IR, Jacksonville is down to James O'Shaughnessy and David Grinnage at TE.

Jaguars TE Niles Paul injured his knee in the 1st half of Sunday's game in Dallas and will not return. That leaves James O'Shaughnessy as Jacksonville's top TE.

The Jaguars have signed TE Niles Paul, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Paul flashed with a 39-507-1 line back in 2014 but hasn't been the same player since a fractured ankle cost him the entire 2015 season. He's still only 28, though, and owned a 94th percentile SPARQ score pre-injury. Don't bother drafting Paul in early best-ball leagues, but he'll be worth monitoring this summer.

Redskins TE Niles Paul will miss the entire 2015 season after suffering a fractured and dislocated ankle in Thursday night's preseason opener.  It's a horribly timed injury for Paul, who was coming off a personal-best 39-507-1 line last year and primed for a bigger role in 2015.  Paul's injury gives Jordan Reed another shot to establish himself as Washington's lead TE.  He hasn't been able to stay healthy through 2 NFL seasons and is currently sidelined with a bum hamstring.  When on the field, though, Reed is capable of TE1 production.  He's worth a late-round shot in fantasy drafts.

Redskins TE Niles Paul was carted off the field in Thursday night's preseason opener with a leg injury.  The leg was air-casted right on the field.  We'll pass along an update when we get one, but this obviously has the look of a severe injury.  It's a tough break for Paul, who had a good offseason and was sitting atop Washington's depth chart.  The injury will give TE Jordan Reed a chance to re-establish himself as the starter.

Update: Paul has a dislocated ankle and will miss the entire 2015 season.
