The Cardinals on Tuesday placed S Tyvon Branch on IR with the same groin injury that knocked RB Chris Johnson out. One of those 2 could come off after 8 games, of course, as the "designated to return" player. HC Bruce Arians told the team website that the recovery timelines of the 2 will help to decide which -- if either -- gains the designation. IDP owners should go ahead and dump Branch in the meantime. Tyrann Mathieu will regain his slot cover duties this week to take over part of what Branch was doing. D.J. Swearinger figures to see more time as well, but Mathieu and Tony Jefferson are the fantasy factors.
Cardinals S Tyvon Branch left in the 1st half of Thursday night's loss to the Seahawks with a right knee injury. HC Bruce Arians said after the game that Branch might be done for the season. We haven't seen specifics on the injury, which is likely headed for confirmation today, but these situations don't often go differently from what the team initially fears. Safeties Antoine Bethea and Budda Baker each saw more playing time than usual with Branch out. Baker, in particular, jumped from highs of 8 total snaps the past 2 weeks to 70% playing time.
Multiple outlets report that S Tyvon Branch has agreed to a 1-year, $2 million deal with the Chiefs. The Raiders released the 28-year-old last month after he missed 13+ games for the 2nd straight season. The injury history clearly scared plenty of potential suitors, given the fairly small contract Branch settled for. He had previously visited the Colts and would have been part of a weak safety market in free agency. If Branch can stay healthy, he should fight for a starting job and provide some IDP value. He has shown top-5 upside in the past.
Raiders S Tyvon Branch suffered a broken foot in Sunday's loss to the Patriots. It's not yet clear how long Branch will be out, but he's not worth keeping on your IDP roster while he heals unless you have an open IR spot in which to stash him. Usama Young will likely start in his place but doesn't bring Branch's proven tackle upside.
Raiders S Tyvon Branch left Friday's exhibition game with an ankle injury. HC Dennis Allen told CSN Bay Area, however, that it's not serious and not related to the broken ankle that ended his 2013 season after just 1 game. A healthy Branch is 1 of the best tackle collectors in the league among DBs and makes for a solid DB2 in you fantasy football league. We're not moving him down the 2014 IDP rankings because of this.
