Steelers WR Sammie Coates (finger) is active for today’s game against the Dolphins. There’s certainly a chance that his injured finger is a factor, but this is also a pristine matchup. Consider Coates a risk/reward WR3.
The Browns have traded a 6th-round pick to the Steelers for WR Sammie Coates. It's an interesting pickup for a Cleveland offense with much yet to settle in its WR corps. But aside from some early-season flashes last year, Coates has proved inconsistent in both performance and durability. He's no more than a deep dynasty stash and unlikely to become a 2017 fantasy factor.
Steelers WR Sammie Coates had his knee scoped last week and will miss the start of training camp, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Coates "could" return in mid-August, per Fowler, but is also a candidate for the regular-season PUP list (which would cost him the first 6 games). This all follows an ugly 2016 campaign and February groin surgery. With the return of Martavis Bryant and the addition of JuJu Smith-Schuster, Coates isn't even a lock to make the Steelers' roster. He's off the redraft radar.
Steelers WR Sammie Coates recently had sports hernia surgery, according to ESPN.com. The issue never appeared on 2016 injury reports and reportedly didn't affect his practice participation at all. It shouldn't inhibit his preparation for 2017 either, given the timing of the operation. Coates' biggest issue heading into next year figures to be the return of WR Martavis Bryant, who plays the Coates role better than Coates does. Expect a diminished presence from Coates in his 3rd season, especially after he saw his playing time dip late in 2016. We'll be surprised if he shows up as a worthwhile fantasy football factor in the coming year.
Steelers WR Sammie Coates recently underwent surgery to repair fractures and tendon damage in his left ring and index fingers, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. The injuries are believed to have occurred in Week 5 against the Jets. Coates racked up 19 catches, 421 yards and 2 scores in his first 5 games but just 2 catches for 14 scoreless yards the rest of the way. It's safe to assume the finger injuries were an issue. Coates still needs significant work on his route-running and ball-tracking. And his 2017 role will be impacted by whether WR Martavis Bryant is reinstated. Turning just 24 in March, though, Coates remains an intriguing dynasty stash and potential 2017 redraft flier.
Steelers WR Sammie Coates (hamstring) isn't listed on the final injury report and will play in Sunday's finale against the Browns. He figures to play a bunch of snaps with Pittsburgh sitting WR Antonio Brown, but Coates is tough to like in fantasy lineups with Landry Jones under center.
