Saints LT Terron Armstead suffered a torn shoulder labrum Wednesday that will require surgery. According to ESPN, he's expected to miss 4-6 months. The short end of that span would make Armstead available in mid-October, but it's tough to imagine his upper-body strength being ready for the rigors of NFL blocking right away. New Orleans will have to approach the season as though it won't have it's star LT. That's obviously a significant blow to Drew Brees' pass protection and a challenge for the Saints' running game. We're not downgrading their fantasy prospects at this point, because New Orleans has delivered big offensive numbers for so long under Brees and HC Sean Payton. But losing Armstead adds downside risk and could be a tie-breaker if you're weighing Mark Ingram or Adrian Peterson against the next guy on your fantasy football draft list.

Saints QB Drew Brees hasn't yet decided whether he'll return for another season in 2020. He's set to be a free agent in March but said that he won't play for a team other than New Orleans. "At this stage of my career, it's not a given that I'm coming back every year, but when that time comes, I'll always be a Saint," Brees said. The 41-year-old remained as efficient as ever this past season, completing 74.3% of his passes and averaging 7.9 yards per attempt. He ranked 3rd in Pro Football Focus' passing grades among 30 QBs with 300+ drop backs. If Brees does decide to hang up his cleats this offseason, the Saints would likely turn to QB Teddy Bridgewater.

Saints QB Drew Brees (thumb) is officially active for today’s game against the Cardinals. There’s some added risk here in his 1st game since tearing a ligament in his throwing thumb, but Brees has plenty of upside vs. Arizona’s 29th-ranked QB defense.

ESPN's Dianna Russini reports that Saints QB Drew Brees (thumb) will start against the Cardinals today. He and the team clearly feel confident enough in that injured throwing thumb -- especially considering New Orleans is off next week. There's still a bit more risk here than usual, but Brees has plenty of upside vs. Arizona's 29th-ranked QB defense.

Saints QB Drew Brees (thumb) was limited in practice all week and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals. HC Sean Payton refused to name his starting QB on Friday, but Brees has said that he plans on playing. We’ll continue to monitor the situation. Whoever is under center for New Orleans — Brees or Teddy Bridgewater — will be in a nice spot at home for Arizona’s 29th-ranked QB defense.

Saints QB Drew Brees (thumb) said Thursday that he'll return for this weekend's game against the Cardinals, although it sounds like a final decision hasn't been made by the team. Assuming he plays, he'll carry some added risk in his 1st game back from that throwing thumb injury. But both Brees and the Saints obviously feel comfortable with his status. He gets a plus matchup against the Cardinals' 28th-ranked QB defense.
