Buccaneers OLB Lavonte David sprained his left ankle in Sunday's loss to the Vikings, but Mondy reports varied on the severity. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that a high ankle sprain was expected to keep David out at least a month. But ESPN's Jenna Laine later reported that David suffered only a medial sprain and is "week-to-week." According to Scott Smith of the team website, HC Dirk Koetter said "the injury is not as bad as it looked or as bad as initially reported." David will reportedly spend a few days in a walking boot. He looks unlikely to play against the Giants in Week 4, but we'll see beyond that. The Tampa Bay defense was already missing MLB Kwon Alexander (hamstring).
The Buccaneers have agreed to a 2-year, $25 million extension with LB Lavonte David, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The deal keeps David from reaching unrestricted free agency and continues his run with the only team he has ever played for. Expect to find David remaining among the top 15 LBs when our 2021 IDP rankings arrive.
Update: NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports that it's actually a 5-year deal with 3 voidable seasons. So we'll see just how many of them David plays.
The Buccaneers expect to have LB Lavonte David in the lineup for their regular-season opener against the 49ers, ESPN reports. David suffered a slight tear to his left meniscus early in training camp and had surgery. Asked about David's status Friday, HC Bruce Arians said, "Lavonte's fine. He'll be practicing Tuesday." About David's availability for the game, the coach added, "It'll be close, but I think he'll be there." It'll be risky to put David in your IDP lineups for the opener. Try to go another direction if you can. But the veteran belongs on fantasy rosters.
Buccaneers LB Lavonte David had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Sunday to repair a "minor" meniscus tear, the Tampa Bay Times reports. HC Bruce Arians called the surgery "nothing serious" and said David should be ready for the regular season. We'll be watching David's return to confirm that. In the meantime, we've knocked David down the LB rankings a bit.
The Tampa Bay Times reports that Buccaneers LB Lavonte David sprained the MCL in his right knee in Sunday's loss to Washington. The Bucs haven't yet ruled him out for this Sunday's visit to the Giants, but the injury makes him seem unlikely for that contest -- and perhaps more time beyond that. We'll see how this situation progresses.
