The Bills traded up from #12 to #7 to select Wyoming QB Josh Allen. Allen looks the part. He’s 6’5, 237 pounds with a bazooka arm. He also has boasts plus athleticism, running for 727 yards and 12 scores over the past 2 seasons and registering an 86th percentile SPARQ score at the Combine. The problem: Allen can’t hit the ocean when he’s standing on the beach. He completed 56.0% and 56.3% of his passes the last 2 years against subpar competition at Wyoming. And he mustered just a 49.0% completion rate at freakin’ Reedley Community College. Allen also comes with a worrisome history of throwing-arm problems, breaking his right clavicle in 2011 and 2015 and spraining his right A/C joint this past year. Allen now heads to Buffalo, where he’ll at least be familiar with the weather. He won’t have much to work with out of the gate, though. Buffalo currently boasts a WR corps of Kelvin Benjamin, Zay Jones, Jeremy Kerley, Andre Holmes and Rod Streater. Allen will duke it out with A.J. McCarron for the Week 1 starting job.
Here's what Bills HC Sean McDermott said Tuesday about how he'll handle his team's meaningless Sunday finale against the Jets, according to SNY.tv: "We're going to play a majority of the guys. To go into detail will take some time, but the majority of guys will play, not all of them. Josh (Allen) will play. They're not all going to play the same amount in the game. We're going to be smart with that, but it's important that we get work in fundamentally and in terms of execution and we stay as sharp as can be." Translation: Expect most starters to play. Don't expect any key guys to make it past halftime. We'd plan on not using QB Josh Allen, RB Devin Singletary or the WRs, if you can help it.
Bills QB Josh Allen (concussion) is active for today’s game against the Titans. He’s more of a QB2 vs. the #8 defense in adjusted fantasy points allowed to QBs.
Bills QB Josh Allen has cleared the concussion protocol and will start Sunday's game against the Titans. He's a shaky QB1 play vs. a Tennessee defense sitting 8th in adjusted fantasy points allowed to QBs.
Bills QB Josh Allen (concussion) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game against the Titans. He put in a full practice on Friday, but HC Sean McDermott said that Allen is still in the protocol. It looks like he has a shot to be cleared in time for Sunday’s game, though. We'll continue to update his status throughout the weekend.
Bills QB Josh Allen (concussion) remained limited in Thursday's practice. He still has multiple stages of the protocol to pass through and seems no better than 50/50 to be cleared in time for this weekend's game against the Titans. QB Matt Barkley will start if Allen can't.
