The Jets used a 4th-round pick on Miami TE Chris Herndon. He tore his MCL in last year's regular-season finale and wasn't able to workout pre-draft, but Herndon looks plenty athletic on tape. He was a 3-year starter for the 'Canes and left school with a 12.2 yards-per-catch average. This landing spot is as good as it gets. Herndon's competition for 2018 snaps and targets consists of Clive Walford, Jordan Leggett and Eric Tomlinson.
The NFL has suspended Jets TE Chris Herndon for the 1st 4 games for violating the league's substance abuse policy, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. A suspension was expected, following Herndon's June 2018 DUI, but rumor had it at 2 games. We might yet see an appeal here. If you're drafting now, though, treat it as a 4-game ban and move Herndon down your TE rankings. The Jets have a Week 4 bye, which means you'd lose Herndon (and that roster spot) for the season's 1st 5 weeks. His absence could help the target outlooks for players such as Jamison Crowder and Quincy Enunwa.
Jets TE Chris Herndon is "facing the likelihood of a two-game suspension for pleading guilty in January to driving while intoxicated," ESPN's Rich Cimini reported Friday. Assuming that comes to fruition, it'll make Herndon tough to go after in common-sized redraft leagues. TE is already a position where we often look to roster just 1 player. Tying up a roster spot with a 2nd who won't even be available the 1st 2 weeks would complicate waiver decisions in 2 of the more important weeks for such moves all season. That said, Herndon should be able to flirt with low-TE1 production when he does hit the field this year.
The Athletic's Connor Hughes highlighted TE Chris Herndon as 1 of the Jets' most impressive players in OTAs. "You can tell the second-year pro is getting comfortable in [HC Adam] Gase’s scheme," Hughes writes. "He’s not thinking as much as he’s letting his athletic ability take over." Hughes adds that Herndon and QB Sam Darnold "already have impressive chemistry." Herndon posted a promising 39-502-4 line as a rookie, finishing 16th among TEs in PPR points. He's capable of climbing higher in year 2.
Jets TE Chris Herndon on Wednesday pled guilty to DWI after a June arrest in New Jersey. It figures to earn him a suspension from the league next season. Herndon is coming off a promising rookie campaign that saw him post a 39-502-4 line. Only 8 rookie TEs have tallied more receiving yards over the past 10 years.
Jets TE Chris Herndon was arrested and charged with DWI in New Jersey on early Saturday morning. The 4th-round rookie crashed into another car and a railroad motorcar at 4:45 am. The accident figures to earn him a suspension from the league. Herndon has a shot to carve out a role in the Jets' wide-open TE corps, but this obviously won't help his cause.
