Broncos QB Case Keenum was benched near the end of the 1st half of Sunday's game against the Rams. He's struggled since Week 1 and completed just 13 of 21 passes for 137 scoreless yards in this one. It looks like Denver will go with QB Chad Kelly in the 2nd half. The Ole Miss product was impressive this preseason, connecting of 67% of his passes with 3 TDs and 2 INTs.
UPDATE: The Broncos now say that Keenum was being checked for a concussion. We'll see who's under center after halftime.
UPDATE: Keenum was cleared and is back under center for the 2nd half.
The Broncos have traded QB Case Keenum and a 2020 7th-round pick to the Redskins in exchange for a 2020 6th-rounder. Denver will also pay half of Keenum's $7 million 2019 salary. It's a cheap acquisition for Washington but doesn't solve the team's QB problem. Keenum's impressive 2016 campaign with the Vikings looks like a major outlier. He completed 58.4% of his passes and averaged 6.7 yards per attempt over the 5 prior seasons. Then he completed 62.3% with a 6.6-yard average and 15 INTs as the Broncos' starter last year. With QB Alex Smith (leg) unlikely to play in 2019, Keenum is the favorite to start for Washington for now. We'll see if the 'Skins add anything else to the QB room.
QB Case Keenum is expected to sign with the Broncos when free agency opens on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Keenum was a revelation in Minnesota last year, completing 67.6% of his passes with 22 TDs vs. just 7 INTs. He entered 2017 with a career 58.4% completion rate, 24 TDs and 20 INTs -- so there's some risk that 2017 was a 1-year blip. It'll help that Keenum is going from Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen to Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders. He's certainly a significant upgrade over the junk Denver threw out at QB last season.
Vikings HC Mike Zimmer announced Tuesday that QB Case Keenum will start Thursday's game against the Lions. It feels like Minnesota is itching to go to QB Teddy Bridgewater, but Keenum continues to play too well to bench. He's completed 66.5% of his passes with 8 TDs vs. 5 INTs over his last 5 starts. He's more of a QB2 this week, though, vs. Detroit's 12th-ranked QB defense.
Vikings HC Mike Zimmer announced on Wednesday that QB Case Keenum will start this weekend's game against the Rams. There's excitement for QB Teddy Bridgewater, but Keenum is simply playing too well to bench right now. That said, he's just a QB2 this week vs. a tough Rams defense.
Vikings QB Case Keenum will start Sunday's game against the Redskins, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports. QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) will be activated to the 53-man roster this week and is expected to be ready to start "relatively soon." How Keenum performs from week-to-week now will likely decide whether and when Bridgewater gets on the field. Minnesota, meanwhile, is considering placing QB Sam Bradford on IR with his knee injury.
