Titans QB Marcus Mariota (stinger) is not expected to play against the Colts tonight, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports. Mariota is listed as questionable and is expected to work out pregame before a final decision is made. But an independent spine specialist has reportedly warned the Titans that further damage to Mariota's nerve could impact his ability to throw long term. So it looks like it'll be Blaine Gabbert under center for tonight's must-win game. Expect a whole bunch of RB Derrick Henry when Tennessee has the ball.
The Raiders are placing QB Marcus Mariota on IR with a pectoral strain. Because of this year's COVID-altered rules, that could knock Mariota out for just 3 weeks. Of course, his availability won't matter that much unless starting QB Derek Carr goes down. Nathan Peterman will back up Car until Mariota returns.
The Raiders have reached a deal with QB Marcus Mariota, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Mariota will back up QB Derek Carr, which doesn't help his fantasy outlook as much as landing in Chicago would have. But Carr doesn't look like the most secure starter in the league. Oakland's not a terrible spot. Still just 26 until Oct. 30, Mariota also likely has at least 1 more NFL contract beyond this one.
Titans QB Marcus Mariota was benched in the 3rd quarter of Sunday's game in Denver after tossing his 2nd INT of the afternoon. He completed just 7 of 18 passes for 63 scoreless yards. QB Ryan Tannehill has replaced Mariota.
The Titans have promoted TEs coach Arthur Smith to OC. Smith has been with Tennessee for 8 years, starting as a defensive assistant before moving to the other side of the ball. The Titans are aiming for continuity from the departed Matt LaFleur's scheme, but Smith is a complete unknown as a play-caller.
