Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) put in a limited practice on Tuesday. “We’re going to get him going and he’s going to practice. And we’re going to see how he feels,” HC Sean McVay said before the workout. “And I think a lot of it is just going to be him getting out there, trusting, getting some of that movement, just putting his foot in the ground, doing some of the things that he’s been accustomed to doing and seeing how that knee responds. So this week will serve as a good chance to get a gauge.” Gurley is expected to play against the Cowboys on Saturday, but we'll continue to keep an eye on his progress.
Falcons OC Dirk Koetter said Tuesday that the goal this season is to get a healthy Todd Gurley 15 touches per game at minimum with 25 as the max. "Healthy" is the key qualifier, of course. Take this projection with a grain of salt even beyond that qualifier. Volume can change drastically throughout a season based on player performance and game flow. But it's at least nice to hear that the Falcons think Gurley is capable of handling that type of workload. For perspective, 28 RBs averaged 15+ touches per game last year; only 10 averaged 20+.
The Falcons have reached a deal with free-agent RB Todd Gurley, less than a day after the Rams released him. Gurley showed us last season that he's no longer built for the workhorse role he shouldered for 3 full seasons with L.A. But he's still likely to lead the Atlanta backfield for 2020. We'll see whether the Falcons add anything else significant to a backfield that returns Ito Smith and Qadree Ollison (with Brian Hill a restricted free agent) after dumping Devonta Freeman. But Atlanta is about as good a landing spot as owners could have hoped for Gurley's fantasy outlook. He looks solid in the Round 4-5 range in current fantasy football drafting.
The Rams announced Wednesday they've released RB Todd Gurley. He will still count $20.15 against the salary cap over the next 2 years, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The timing of the move keeps them from having to pay another $10.5 million in salary and bonuses this year. Gurley was obviously not the same player in 2019 after being dogged by a knee issue over the 2nd half of 2018. He now becomes the latest clear argument against giving an RB a big 2nd contract. That said, Gurley will catch on elsewhere and likely remain fantasy relevant. We'll see about that landing spot. The Rams, meanwhile, return Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown at the top of the RB depth chart. Henderson now looks set up for a breakout 2nd year after limited opportunities in his rookie season.
Rams RB Todd Gurley (quad) isn’t listed on the final Week 7 injury report after graduating to a full practice on Friday. RB Malcolm Brown (ankle) missed practice all week and is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Falcons. Rookie Darrell Henderson will serve as Los Angeles’ #2 RB in this one, but Gurley should be in for plenty of volume in a likely shootout.
Rams RB Todd Gurley (quad) told reporters after Thursday's practice that he's "doing better" but wouldn't commit to being ready for this weekend's game against the Falcons, according to ESPN's Lindsay Thiry. RB Malcolm Brown, meanwhile, missed practice again on Thursday. We'll get another update on this backfield on Friday afternoon.
