Seahawks HC Pete Carroll said that WR D.K. Metcalf "looked great" while putting in a full practice Monday and has made a "fantastic recovery" from his August knee surgery, according to Gregg Bell of The News Tribune. Bell adds that "all signs" point to Metcalf playing in Sunday's regular-season opener against the Bengals. We'll see exactly what role the 2nd-round rookie is in for after missing nearly 2 weeks. Seattle also brought back veteran WR Jaron Brown on Monday after cutting him over the weekend. Don't plan to use Metcalf in your Week 1 fantasy football lineups unless you play in an especially deep league.

Recent Shark Bites

The Seahawks love what they got out of WR D.K. Metcalf as a rookie last year but believe he's capable of even more going forward. “The No. 1 thing that we know is that we can move him around and do different things with him," OC Brian Schottenheimer said. “He kind of got stuck at the ‘X’ receiver last year. This year we know we can move him around quite a bit more. There are so many more routes he can run. He’s proven he can get behind people. I just think the flexibility of moving him around and introducing some different route concepts that we can kind of get him up to speed on that will complement the things that he’s already put on film. It will be an incredible, incredible advantage for us as we head into next season.” Metcalf posted an impressive 58-900-7 line last season -- and then totaled 219 yards and a score on 11 catches in 2 playoff games. It's plenty possible that he overtakes Tyler Lockett as Seattle's top WR in 2020.

Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf (knee) isn’t listed on the final Week 1 injury report after putting in full practices on Thursday and Friday. The rookie has a shot to quickly emerge as Seattle’s #2 WR. But consider him just a DFS tournament option for the opener after he underwent knee surgery a few weeks ago.

Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf was inactive for Sunday night's game against the Vikings with what GM John Schneider called a "sore leg" during a radio interview. After the game, however, HC Pete Carroll said the rookie needs knee surgery, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. "Don't think he'll be out long," Pelissero added. We'll see about further details on this issue. But even if it's a quick turnaround, it hurts Metcalf's chances of cracking the starting lineup early in the regular season.

The Seattle' Times' Bob Condotta expects Tyler Lockett, David Moore and Jaron Brown to open the season as the Seahawks' top 3 WRs. That'd most notably leave D.K. Metcalf no better than 4th on the depth chart. The rookie reportedly had an impressive spring but was always more of a project than NFL-ready prospect. Condotta does concede that Metcalf is "the most logical of the rookies to contribute heavily," but he's not looking like a good bet for early-season fantasy value.

The Seahawks added Ole Miss WR D.K. Metcalf with the 64th pick of the draft. Metcalf is a freak of nature: 6’3, 228 pounds with 4.33 speed and a 40.5-inch vertical. He struggled in the agility drills at the Combine, but we didn’t think change-of-direction was an issue on tape. In fact, Metcalf has some of the best tape in this year’s WR class, showcasing high-end speed, ball skills and releases off the line of scrimmage. His production at Ole Miss never matched his ability, though. He missed 10 games with a broken foot in 2016 and 5 more this past season with a fracture of his C-3 vertebrae that required surgery. When he was on the field, Metcalf totaled just 67 catches in 21 games — although he did average a big 18.3 yards per catch with 14 TDs. Metcalf is a classic boom/bust prospect. Landing with QB Russell Wilson certainly helps his NFL odds, though.
