Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes suffered a sprained ankle in Sunday's win over the Jaguars, HC Andy Reid said afterward. Mahomes was able to play through it ... and played well. He torched Jacksonville for 378 yards and 3 scores on 25-of-33 passing. We'll keep an eye on Mahomes' practice participation this coming week, but he should be fine for next Sunday's game in Oakland.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (patella) is expected to miss "at least" 3 weeks. Friday's MRI will determine whether he needs season-ending surgery, but there's "some real optimism" that Mahomes will be able to return this season, per Rapoport. This is jibes with what we heard from Dr. David Chao on Thursday night. We should have a better idea of Mahomes' outlook by Friday night.
Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has been diagnosed with a dislocated patella (knee cap), according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Mahomes will undergo an MRI to check for ligament damage. Former NFL head team Dr. David Chao says that Mahomes will eventually need surgery, which will sideline him for 6 to 9 months. It's possible, though, for Mahomes to return in 4+ weeks and play through the injury. We'll continue to update this situation as we learn more.
Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes injured his right knee on a QB sneak in the 2nd quarter of Sunday's game against the Broncos. Trainers appeared to pop the knee back into place on the field. Mahomes was able to walk off the field with trainers and headed back to the locker room. We'll update his status when we learn more. QB Matt Moore is in the game for Kansas City.
Update: Mahomes has been ruled out for the game.
Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes confirmed that he aggravated the ankle injury he originally suffered in Week 1 in Sunday night's loss to the Colts. "Just reaggravated it a little bit there in the first half and then got stepped on in the second half," Mahomes said. "Obviously it's going to be a little sore tomorrow." Neither Mahomes nor HC Andy Reid sounded too concerned about this after the game. Mahomes should be fine for Week 6's game against the Texans, but we'll keep an eye on him this week.
The forecast for today's Ravens-Chiefs game calls for a 70% chance of rain. There are flash flood warnings in the area, so it sounds like the rainfall could be heavy. The good news is that wind shouldn't be a major problem, with the forecast calling for 10-13 mph. We'll keep an eye on this as we get closer to 1 pm ET kickoff and adjust the Week 3 rankings as needed.
