Cowboys FS Xavier Woods will miss the next 4-6 weeks after suffering a high ankle sprain in Sunday's win over Washington, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Former Giant Darian Thompson looks like the next man up for that slot, which hasn't tended to deliver much IDP value in recent seasons.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Panthers are signing S Xavier Woods to a 3-year, $15.75 million contract. Woods spent last year starting in Minnesota after 4 years in Dallas (3 as a full-time starter). In Carolina, he'll help solidify a position that has cycled through multiple starters over HC Matt Rhule's 2 years at the helm. Woods can be a solid IDP option, but his 2021 fantasy production checked in well above any of his previous campaigns. So expect regression from last year's finish.

According to The Athletic, Woods is expected to miss 3-4 weeks. Dallas' opener sits 3 weeks and 1 day from the date of his injury. The Cowboys have gone through camp extremely thin at safety, listing Woods and fellow starter Jeff Heath as each other's backups. Fortunately for them, the free-agent market still holds plenty of former starters at the position -- including George Iloka, whom Cincinnati released Sunday. ESPN's Todd Archer says the Cowboys are considering Iloka, among others. Dallas, of course, has also been linked to disgruntled Seahawks FS Earl Thomas all offseason. We'll see where this goes and when Woods makes it back to the field.
