NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that Panthers QB Cam Newton aggravated his foot injury in Thursday night's loss to the Bucs and that his status for Week 3 is "up in the air." We'll keep tabs on Newton throughout the week, but he shouldn't be in your Week 3 fantasy plans. On top of struggling as a passer, Newton isn't running. He has 5 carries for negative 2 yards through 2 games -- and the foot injury is likely to blame. QB Kyle Allen will start for Carolina against the Cardinals on Sunday if Newton can't.

Panthers QB Cam Newton has decided to have surgery on his Lisfranc injury, according to NFL Network's Tiffany Blackmon. Newton is expected to be sidelined 8 to 10 weeks, which would put him back on the field in late January or early February. Due $18.6 million in 2020 -- on top of a $2 million option bonus -- Newton's future in Carolina is completely up in the air.

The Panthers announced Tuesday that they will place QB Cam Newton on IR for his foot injury. That ends Newton's season and secures Kyle Allen's starting gig for the remainder of 2019. Newton's recovery will be interesting to watch through the offseason. He has just 1 more year on his contract. According to Spotrac, that season carries a $21.1 million cap hit whereas cutting Newton would leave just $2 million in dead cap space. Newton will turn 31 in May, 2 months after the new league year begins. Allen will be an exclusive-rights free agent in the spring, meaning Carolina still controls his rights for at least 2020.

Panthers QB Cam Newton (foot) is expected to be out "several weeks and potentially more" after visiting noted foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Surgery was not recommended, but Newton needs more rest to let his Lisfranc injury heal. Rapoport notes that a move to injured reserve hasn't been ruled out. Newton seems like a long shot to re-emerge as a bankable fantasy asset this season and can be dropped outside of 2-QB leagues.

Panthers QB Cam Newton is visiting foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson to get another opinion on his Lisfranc injury, according to ESPN's Josina Anderson. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that Newton's foot is "not getting better" and that "playing football is a long way off." We'll continue to keep an eye on this, but Newton certainly isn't a must-hold in 1-QB fantasy leagues.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Panthers QB Cam Newton (foot) is expected to be ready to practice after the Week 7 bye. Carolina has gone 4-0 under QB Kyle Allen, although his play has been uneven. We'll see if Newton is ready to return for Week 8 against the 49ers -- and then if the Panthers go back to him.
