Cardinals dumping Swearinger | Shark Bites | Draft Sharks

The Cardinals are releasing S D.J. Swearinger, according to multiple reports. That's not surprising, as Swearinger has been the main culprit in Arizona's awful coverage against TEs. It's also the 2nd team to dump him in less than a year. Swearinger joined the Cardinals after Washington cut him from a starting position there. We'll see who Arizona plans to insert into the lineup.

Washington on Monday released S D.J. Swearinger. The move followed Swearinger criticizing DC Greg Manusky's playcalling after Saturday's loss to Tennessee. "We should have blowed them out," Swearinger said, per ESPN's John Keim. "If I'm the D-coordinator, I'm calling zone every time on third down because you got a backup quarterback. Make him beat us. We're playing a backup quarterback. Why would you put us in man-to-man? We are our best on defense when we look at the quarterback." That doesn't seem like enough on its own to get a Pro Bowl safety booted. Whatever the full case, Swearinger now hits the open market ahead of Week 17 and the playoffs. We'd be surprised if he makes it to the weekend without a new team.

A day after the Texans waived S D.J. Swearinger, the Buccaneers claimed the third-year player. Swearinger struggled mightily in run D last year, according to Pro Football Focus grading. That was surprising, given that he performed best in that area as a 2013 rookie. Swearinger has proved below average in coverage both seasons. He did, at least, look dangerous as a blitzer at times. With the Bucs, Swearinger should get to compete with Bradley McDougald, Major Wright and Chris Conte for the starting spots. The Bucs also picked up waived former Bears OLB Khaseem Greene on Tuesday.

Texans S D.J. Swearinger is active against the Giants in Week 3 despite a hyperextended elbow from Week 2 that limited his practice week.  Go ahead and start Swearinger in your IDP lineup in a high-upside matchup.

Texans S D.J. Swearinger is questionable for Sunday's visit to the Giants.  He hyperextended his elbow in the Week 2 win over Oakland.  Swearinger put in limited practices all week, and we'd bet on him playing Week 3.  But we'll obviously keep an eye on the game status for the emergent IDP contributor.

Texans DC Wade Phillips said Thursday that rookie S D.J. Swearinger -- not Shiloh Keo -- will take over for injured SS Danieal Manning.  The hard-hitting Swearinger carries intriguing IDP upside for his all-around game.  He intercepted 5 passes and forced 3 fumbles over his final 2 seasons at South Carolina.  Swearinger also saw ample preseason playing time while S Ed Reed worked back from hip surgery.  We're not starting Swearinger right away, particularly in an unfriendly matchup with the Chiefs.  But we're watching.  Manning hit IR this week with a left knee injury.
