The Steelers announced Saturday that WR Diontae Johnson has cleared the concussion protocol. That makes him available for Sunday's game against the Bengals. Johnson makes sense in WR3 range for fantasy football lineups.

Recent Shark Bites

Steelers WR Diontae Johnson recently underwent sports-hernia surgery. It's unclear when the injury occurred -- he was never on the injury report in 2019 -- but it shouldn't significantly impact his offseason. Johnson turned in an encouraging rookie campaign, leading the Steelers with 59 catches and 5 receiving scores and ranking 2nd with 680 receiving yards. He should build on those numbers in 2020 if QB Ben Roethlisberger is able to stay healthy.

Steelers WR Diontae Johnson (concussion) put in a full practice on Wednesday. He's on track to play against the Bengals this weekend. With JuJu Smith-Schuster expected to miss this one, Johnson and James Washington will serve as Pittsburgh's top 2 WRs.

Steelers WR Diontae Johnson left in the 3rd quarter of Thursday night's game against the Browns after taking a shot to the face mask. The hit drew a penalty and got Cleveland S Damarious Randall ejected. Johnson walked off the field with a lot of assistance and then reportedly went from the blue tent to the locker room on a cart. He likely suffered a concussion. We'll see what the team has to say about Johnson's outlook beyond Week 11.

Update: Johnson has been diagnosed with a concussion.

The Steelers selected Toledo WR Diontae Johnson in the 3rd round of the 2019 NFL Draft. The 5'10, 183-pounder tested as a 13th percentile athlete at the Combine. But he's 1 of the better route runners in this class and racked up 2,039 yards and 21 TDs over the past 2 years. Frankly, we didn't expect Johnson to come off the board this early -- but the Steelers have earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to drafting WRs. NFL.com's Lance Zierlein compares Johnson to former Steeler Emmanuel Sanders.
