Breida won't play Week 13 | Shark Bites | Draft Sharks

ESPN's Adam Schefter has updated his original report and now says 49ers RB Matt Breida (ankle) won't play against the Ravens today. "49ers want a fully healthy Breida for New Orleans next week," Schefter adds. So fantasy owners should get Breida back for Week 14. Raheem Mostert will again serve as San Francisco's #2 RB today.

Recent Shark Bites

The 49ers have traded RB Matt Breida to the Dolphins in exchange for a 5th-round pick. Breida has been excellent for the 49ers over the past 3 seasons, averaging 5.0 yards per carry and 8.4 yards per catch. This past year, he ranked 21st in Pro Football Focus' rushing grades among 45 RBs with 100+ carries. Breida was a victim of the numbers game in a packed 49ers backfield but will find plenty of opportunity in Miami, where Jordan Howard resides atop the depth chart. Expect some sort of committee attack in 2020, but Breida's explosiveness and pass-catching ability might make him the more valuable fantasy asset.

The 49ers have played a 2nd-round tender on RB Matt Breida and restructured RB Jerick McKinnon's contract. It looks like both guys will be back in the fold for 2020. RBs Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman remain better fantasy bets at this point, but this could once again be a frustrating Shanahan backfield.

49ers RB Matt Breida (ankle) put in a full week of practice and isn’t listed on the final injury report. He’ll return to the backfield alongside Tevin Coleman and Raheem Mostert for Sunday’s game against the Saints. It’s anyone’s guess as to how touches will be divvied between those 3, leaving them all as risk/reward RB3 or flex plays.

49ers RB Matt Breida (ankle) put in a full practice on Thursday. It's confirmation that he'll return for this weekend's showdown with the Saints. How the 'Niners will divvy carries between Breida, Tevin Coleman and Raheem Mostert is anyone's guess. It makes all 3 guys risk/reward RB3 plays.

49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said Monday that he's "optimistic" about RB Matt Breida's chances of returning for this weekend's game against the Saints. Raheem Mostert took control of San Francisco's backfield in yesterday's loss to the Ravens, out-carrying Tevin Coleman 19 to 5. But with Breida back in this mix, this will be a tough situation to handicap for Week 14.
