The Bengals released RB Gio Bernard, saving $4.2 million against the 2021 salary cap. Bernard has been a thorn in RB Joe Mixon's side, averaging 3.5 targets and 2.6 catches per game over the past 4 season. Cincinnati now has only Samaje Perine and Trayveon Williams behind Mixon on the depth chart. We'll see if they make any additions, but Mixon should be in for more work in the passing game this season. The 29-year-old Bernard, meanwhile, is unlikely to be a 2021 fantasy factor.
The Bucs signed RB Gio Bernard, 5 days after he was dumped by the Bengals. The 29-year-old has averaged less than 4 yards per carry in 3 straight seasons. But he's remained useful in the passing game, catching 112 balls and averaging 7.2 yards per. Bernard will be no better than 3rd in line for carries in the Bucs backfield behind Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones but could siphon receptions from both guys.
Bengals RB Gio Bernard (concussion) is active for today’s game against the Giants. He’s a RB3 or flex with QB Brandon Allen under center.
Bengals RB Gio Bernard (concussion) is expected to play against the Giants today, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Bernard has tallied 12 targets over the past 2 games but handled just 17 of 34 RB carries. With Brandon Allen now under center for Cincinnati, Bernard looks like just a RB3 or flex play.
Bengals RB Gio Bernard (concussion) is listed as questionable for this weekend's game against the Giants. He put in a full practice on Friday, though, and HC Zac Taylor said he "feels good" about Bernard's chances of playing. We'll get his official status by noon ET on Sunday. Between a dwindling ball-carrying role (17 carries over the last 2 weeks) and the loss of QB Joe Burrow, Bernard looks like just a low-upside RB3 now.
Bengals RB Gio Bernard (concussion) got in a limited practice on Thursday. So he's made some progress through the protocol. We'll see what he's able to do tomorrow and how he's listed on the final injury report ahead of Sunday's game vs. the Giants.
