Jordan Mason Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.

Niners RB Christian McCaffrey put in a limited practice Saturday, his first action this week coming off the oblique injury. He's questionable for Monday night's game aginst the Vikings. We'll watch for any indications on whether he'll play before the Sunday games begin, but you might have to guess on McCaffrey's status until Monday. Make sure you have an insurance option available if you plan to wait on the 49er.

49ers RB Christian McCaffrey's oblique/rib injury is not considered long-term, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Schefter adds that McCaffrey has a "chance" to play vs. the Vikings on Monday night. "The work week will help determine" his availability, Schefter says. We'll keep you updated on McCaffrey's status throughout the week. The Monday kickoff could make it a tricky situation for fantasy owners if McCaffrey ends up as a game-time decision.

The Athletic's Matt Barrows tweets that 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan "praised Jordan Mason's play on Sunday. But it sounded that Elijah Mitchell, not Mason, would be in the lead role should Christian McCaffrey miss Monday's game." It's certainly more tea-leaf-reading by Barrows than actual reporting -- but noteworthy nonetheless. Both Mitchell and Mason should be owned in most fantasy leagues as we wait to learn more about McCaffrey.

Jordan Mason, not Elijah Mitchell, took over as San Francisco’s lead back after Christian McCaffrey exited Sunday's loss to the Browns with an oblique injury. Mason finished with 27 yards and a score on five carries to Mitchell’s two carries for minus-three yards. We’re not ready to say just yet that Mason would be the better fantasy play if CMC misses more time, but he certainly deserves to be rostered in most fantasy leagues. Mason has averaged 5.9 yards across 64 carries over the past two seasons.

49ers RB Christian McCaffrey is questionable to return to Sunday's game vs. the Browns with an oblique injury. We'll update his status when we know more. McCaffrey's absence leaves San Francisco's backfield to Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason.

Update: McCaffrey has returned to the game.

Update: McCaffrey carried once and then left the game, jogging back to the locker room.

Update: McCaffrey has been ruled out.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (knee) is active for today’s game vs. the Browns. He figures to slide back in as the No. 2 RB but would be a desperation fantasy start.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (knee) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game vs. the Browns. He got in limited practices on Thursday and Friday. We’ll see if Mitchell is ready to return as San Francisco’s No. 2 RB, but he shouldn’t be in your Week 6 fantasy plans.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (knee) is out for Sunday night's game vs. the Cowboys. That'll leave Jordan Mason as San Francisco's No. 2 RB -- and very likely mean another massive workload for RB Christian McCaffrey.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (knee) is inactive for today’s game vs. the Cardinals. RBs Jordan Mason and Ty Davis-Price are active to spell workhorse RB Christian McCaffrey.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (knee) is not expected to play vs. the Cardinals today, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Mitchell injured his knee in Thursday's practice and did not practice on Friday. His absence could mean an extra touch or two for RB Christian McCaffrey. Jordan Mason and Ty Davis-Price figure to be active behind CMC.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (knee) is listed as questionable for this weekend's game vs. the Cardinals. He reportedly hurt his knee in Thursday's practice and did not practice on Friday. Mitchell's absence on Sunday would leave Jordan Mason as San Francisco's No. 2 RB.

49ers RB Jordan Mason “appears” to be the favorite for the RB3 role, per beat writer Jack Hammer. Mason's main competition is 2022 Round 3 pick Tyrion Davis-Price. “The second-year back is a more fluid runner and does a better job of setting up his blockers than Ty Davis-Price,” Hammer writes. “He has also looked much better in pass protection, squaring up defenders consistently.” We’ll see what the rest of the preseason brings. But the RB3 role in San Francisco figures to have some fantasy relevance this season — especially with No. 2 Elijah Mitchell already battling an adductor injury.

ESPN’s Nick Wagoner believes 49ers RB Tyrion Davis-Price looks “quicker and leaner.” The 22-year-old is likely headed for the RB3/4 role in San Francisco. But recall that the team selected him in Round 3 just one year ago. He posted only 99 yards (on 34 carries) as a rookie.

49ers RB Jordan Mason has flashed "noticeably better" receiving skills this offseason, per The Athletic's Matt Barrows. It was a reported area of focus for Mason, who tallied only 26 career catches (in four seasons) at Georgia Tech. The former UDFA excelled in limited rushing action as a rookie, and he could ascend to the RB2 role if Elijah Mitchell’s injury woes continue. Circle Mason as a deep sleeper on your fantasy cheat sheet.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (groin) is inactive for today's NFC Championship game vs. the Eagles. RB Tevin Coleman was elevated from the practice squad on Saturday and is active for this one. He joins Christian McCaffrey and Jordan Mason in San Francisco's backfield. RB Ty Davis-Price is a healthy scratch. Check out the updated projections for the 49ers backfield.

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell (knee) has been designated to return from IR. He's been out since spraining an MCL in Week 12. We'll see if he's ready to play vs. the Cardinals this weekend. A healthy Mitchell figures to slide back in as San Francisco's #2 RB behind Christian McCaffrey.

49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (knee) practiced in full on Friday and doesn't have an injury tag in advance of Week 17 vs. the Raiders. Teammate RB Jordan Mason (hamstring) also fully practiced and will be ready for Sunday. Fire up McCaffrey as an RB1 stud per usual.

49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (knee) once again practiced in a limited fashion on Thursday. Teammate RB Jordan Mason (hamstring) logged limited practice as well. Friday's injury report will shed light on the availability of this pair of backs for Week 17's game vs. the Raiders. We certainly feel better about McCaffrey suiting up considering he's played through this ailment for some time.

Niners RB Christian McCaffrey managed just 46 yards on his 15 carries (3.1 per rush) in Saturday's win over the Commanders. He added just 2 receptions for 12 yards. That matched McCaffrey's low for receptions on the season, and his 2 targets set a new season low. RB Tyrion Davis-Price jumped in for 9 carries and 30 yards as the only other RB to see any touches. McCaffrey and the 49ers get a high-upside matchup with the Raiders in Week 17.
