Panthers QB Cam Newton resumed throwing last week for the 1st time since March 30 surgery on his throwing shoulder, according to the team website. Newton said the joint is not yet 100%, citing stiffness. But he also said "there's no doubt" he'll be 100% by training camp. If Newton's fantasy value relied more heavily on his passing, we might be more concerned with this situation. But accuracy has never been a strong point for the star QB. The biggest issue here might be the threat of further hits on the repaired joint. Of course, we've baked the general injury risk of Newton's running into his ranking. We'll see how his summer goes.
Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder, ankle) is active for today’s game against the Saints. There was never any concern about his availability. Newton has struggled through 2 weeks, but this is a get-right spot against a bad New Orleans defense missing CBs Marshon Lattimore and Sterling Moore.
The Panthers listed QB Cam Newton (shoulder, ankle) as questionable for Week 3 after a limited week of practice. We've heard nothing to suggest that he's in any danger of missing Sunday's game against the Saints. Go ahead and keep him penciled into fantasy lineups. Just check back Sunday morning to make sure he's active.
Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder) is active for today’s game against the 49ers. He was listed as questionable but put in a full week of practice and was never in danger of missing this one. This will be Newton’s 1st extensive action since March surgery on his throwing shoulder. It makes him a risk/reward QB1 for the opener.
The Panthers listed QB Cam Newton (shoulder) as questionable for Week 1.He practiced in full all week and will start against the 49ers on Sunday. He’s a risk/reward fantasy play in a plus matchup but having thrown just 2 passes in the preseason.
Panthers QB Cam Newton had a quick but effective preseason debut on Thursday night, leading his team on a 10-play, 75-yard TD drive. Newton handed off 8 times -- 4 times to Jonathan Stewart and 4 to Christian McCaffrey. He completed both of his pass attempts for 21 yards and a score. Newton checked down to McCaffrey and then connected on a quick slant to WR Kelvin Benjamin for a 9-yard TD. He showed no signs of the shoulder surgery that sidelined him for much of the offseason, although we didn't get to see him unleash any long balls. With Newton unlikely to play in the preseason finale, the next time we'll see him is Week 1 against the 49ers. He's a risk/reward QB1.
