SELL Matt Stafford, QB, Lions
You should be weighing rest-of-way schedule heavily when making waiver-wire moves and trades at this point of the season. With 10 weeks in the books, the Fantasy Points Allowed data is bankable. And each individual game takes on increased importance as you battle to make the playoffs and then advance in them.
And that’s exactly why you should be working to SELL Stafford this week.
He’s been red hot over his last 5 games, averaging 315 passing yards and 2 TDs. Only 7 QBs have averaged more fantasy points per game during that stretch.
But his schedule is about to get brutal. In fact, only the Browns and Colts have tougher rest-of-season QB schedules, according to our Adjusted Fantasy Points Allowed metric.
Stafford still has 2 games (Weeks 11 and 15) against a sneaky-good Bears defense that ranks 3rd vs. QBs. There’s a Week 13 meeting with Baltimore’s 2nd-ranked QB defense. Stafford has a rematch in Week 12 with a Vikings squad that held him to 209 scoreless yards earlier this season. And he goes to Cincinnati to square off with the Bengals’ 12th-ranked QB defense in Week 16.
The only remaining game when he’ll be a nice QB1 play is against the Bucs in Week 14.
If you have another reliable QB rostered or can work the waiver wire the rest of the season, move Stafford for an upgrade at another position. Otherwise, look to trade him for Marcus Mariota, Derek Carr or Tyrod Taylor — and maybe an upgrade elsewhere.
