Experts Auction Recap

I have to admit, I’m still pretty new to auctions. Tuesday night was just the 3rd time I’ve built a fantasy football team via auction. I like the format. I like the extra layers of strategy. I’m also still learning what to expect, which is tougher when you draft with a different group each time.

All that aside, I figured I’d share the results from this “expert” auction. It’s a 12-team, PPR league that we’ll be playing out. The lineup comprises 10 players, with 5 bench spots. That’s the smallest roster I’ve drafted this year, which certainly makes it easier to divvy a $200 bank.

I’ll go through my picks with a little explanation and then show the 5 most expensive guys at each position, just for a little context. You can find full auction results here.

Starters

Tony Romo, QB, Cowboys ($15)
Let’s just say that I was excited about this one. I have Romo 4th among QBs this season and virtually tied with Drew Brees for that 3rd slot. Brees went for $32. Philip Rivers commanded $27. Tom Brady $25. I’ll take Romo ahead of Rivers and Brady straight up this season. At the end of the draft, other owners were talking about this as the steal of the auction. (One more example: Matt Schaub went for $16.) It helped that – I think – 7 other owners already had starting QBs when Romo hit the board.
