What You Need to Know:

  • Sanders, 34, underwhelmed in his lone season with New Orleans. Even with Michael Thomas appearing in only 7 games, Sanders tallied 61-726-5.
  • The former Saint tallied just 11.9 YPC — below his pre-2020 career average of 13.3.
  • Per Pro Football Focus, Sanders forced only 3 missed tackles.
  • He lacked a ceiling with only 4 outings of 15+ PPR points — each without Thomas.
  • Sanders missed 2 games while on the COVID-19 list.
  • Sanders signed a 1-year deal worth $6 million early in free agency.
  • Buffalo remains stacked at WR after losing John Brown. Sanders joins Stefon Diggs, Cole Beasley and promising 2nd-year man Gabriel Davis.
  • The Bills used 4-WR sets on 15% of their plays last year — 2nd most league-wide. Still, that represented only 186 total snaps (11.6 per game).
  • Sanders does figure to benefit from Josh Allen’s aggressive play style. Last year, Drew Brees’ average depth of target (aDOT) was a silly-low 6.6. Sanders’ tally was 9.5 — 54th among 77 WRs with at least a 50% snap share.

Draft Sharks Bottom Line:

Sanders, now on his 4th team since 2018, is clearly nearing the end of his career. The 34-year-old is coming off his 2nd lowest yardage total since 2012. His 2.7 YAC per reception marked the worst tally of his career.

A relatively healthy 2020, a pass-first Buffalo offense and a match with uber-aggressive Josh Allen supply the upside. Yet in an offense with Stefon Diggs, Cole Beasley and Gabriel Davis, there’s simply not a huge piece of the target pie for the taking. While spot start value is reasonable, don’t expect a major resurgence this fall.

Bills WR Emmanuel Sanders (foot) is expected to play against the Steelers today, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The veteran was limited in practice all week, and it's unclear if the foot will be a factor today. The uncertainty means Sanders is better off on fantasy benches for Week 1.

Bills WR Emmanuel Sanders (foot) is listed as questionable for Sunday's opener against the Steelers after a limited week of practice. A fringy fantasy option to begin with, Sanders shouldn't be in lineups at less than 100%. His absence would turn WR Gabriel Davis into a near every-down player -- and a viable Week 1 fantasy play.

Bills WR Emmanuel Sanders (foot) remained limited in Thursday's practice. We haven't seen anything to suggest the foot will be an issue this weekend -- but it'd be nice to see him get in a full practice on Friday.

Bills WR Emmanuel Sanders (foot) was limited in Wednesday's practice. The veteran missed a few days of practice in early August with this foot issue, but it shouldn't impact his status for this weekend's opener vs. the Steelers.
