Basic Stats Full Player Fantasy Analysis

What You Need to Know:

  • Beckham played through a core muscle injury for most of the 2019 season. He underwent surgery in January of 2020 and was declared “100%” by HC Kevin Stefanski in late June.
  • A torn left ACL ended his 2020 season in Week 7. He underwent surgery on November 10.
  • Prior to that, Beckham underwhelmed as a fantasy asset. In 6 full games, he finished as the WR77, WR19, WR48, WR1, WR41 and WR66. That stretch turned up 23-319-3 on 42 targets.
  • A low, 54.7% catch rate really stands out. He dropped only 1 pass but was targeted deeper down field with an average depth of target of 14.1 — a career-high. His connection with Baker Mayfield routinely looked off.
  • Beckham’s WR1 finish (at Dallas) was boosted by a 50-yard rushing TD. He recorded 3 carries on the season; 3 back in 2019 (16 games).
  • Beckham was decently efficient, ranking 38th among 99 WRs with 40+ targets in yards per route run (1.79).
  • He garnered a 24.7% target share in his 6 full games for a thin, low-volume pass offense.
  • For comparison, Jarvis Landry’s target share stood at 19.4% over the same stretch.
  • Cleveland didn’t make any significant WR/TE upgrades in the spring. The nucleus of this offense, including HC Kevin Stefanski and OC Alex Van Pelt, return.
  • With Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, a strong, high-volume running game will return to the Browns in ’21. Last year, the team ranked 4th in rush attempts; 4th in run rate.
  • Long-time Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot wrote the following over the offseason: "I'm of the mind that Beckham would have flourished in the second half [of 2020] once Baker Mayfield hit his stride. I think they'll be dynamite together, especially now that Mayfield has the confidence to run this offense at a high level.”
  • Mayfield rebounded from a down 2019 to post career-bests in QB rating (95.9), QBR (72.2) and INT rate (1.6%).
  • Beckham was floated as a trade candidate early in the offseason, but barring a surprise, he’ll return for a 3rd season in Cleveland.

Draft Sharks Bottom Line

After posting 1,035 yards in his debut season with the Browns, Beckham’s progress was slowed by a torn ACL last fall. Beckham saw heavy downfield usage in year 1 under HC Kevin Stefanski and a still-developing Baker Mayfield.

Now 28, Beckham enters a critical season. His health will be worth monitoring, but he’s expected to be 100% for Week 1. Plus, the fact that Cleveland will put him right back in a featured role means they have some level of trust in the 3-time Pro Bowler.

If Beckham’s ADP stays in the Round 7 range, he’ll be worth the risk as a WR3.

Rams WR Odell Beckham (hip) is active for today’s game vs. the Jaguars. He got in limited practices on Wednesday and Friday, but it never seemed like he was in jeopardy of missing this one. We’re expecting Beckham to be an every-down player today. He’s a WR2 with upside in fantasy lineups.

Rams WR Odell Beckham (hip) is expected to play vs. the Jaguars today, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Beckham "should be a bigger part of the offense," Rapoport adds. That'd be tough considering Beckham played 98% of the offensive snaps and saw 10 targets last week. But the takeaway here is that Beckham shouldn't be limited by that hip pointer. He's a WR2 with upside in today's plus matchup.

Rams WR Odell Beckham (hip) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game vs. the Jaguars. He got in limited practices on Wednesday and Friday. Both Beckham and HC Sean McVay said Friday that the receiver is on track to play. The hip injury adds some risk, but OBJ has plenty of upside in this plus matchup.

Rams WR Odell Beckham's status for Sunday's game vs. the Jaguars is "up in the air," according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Beckham was limited with his hip pointer on Wednesday but did not practice on Thursday, so it looks like he had a setback. Rapoport adds that Beckham's injury is "not considered a major issue." But it's possible that the Rams opt to hold him out in a game they should be able to win without him. We'll get another update on his status this afternoon.
