What You Need to Know:

  • Michel was traded from New England to L.A. last August. He helped fill the void left by Cam Akers (Achilles’ tear).
  • Appearing in all 17 games, Michel tallied 845 yards and 4 scores on 208 attempts.
  • Following a slow start, Michel saw workhorse touches down the stretch. From Week 13 to Week 18, he saw 20+ opportunities in each matchup.
  • Michel ranked mid-pack in PFF Elusive Rating, PFF rushing grade and yards after contact per attempt.
  • He finished as an RB1 twice (vs. Jacksonville and at Minnesota).
  • Michel, 27, signed a 1-year deal with Miami post-draft. He’ll earn ~$1.75 million.
  • He joined a club that already has Chase Edmonds, Raheem Mostert and Myles Gaskin.
  • The presence of Edmonds, a top receiving back, means Michel will need to carve out a low-value ball-carrying role.
  • Miami’s offense at least looks poised for a scoring boost — especially with the arrival of HC Mike McDaniel and Tyreek Hill. The Fins popped in only 7 team RB rushing TDs last year.
  • The Fins’ O-line looks improved as well. LT Terron Armstead and OG Connor Williams arrived in free agency to bolster a unit that really struggled in ‘21.

Draft Sharks Bottom Line:

A deep and talented Miami backfield shows that HC Mike McDaniel values the run game.

The math just doesn’t work out in Michel’s favor. Miami paid up for Chase Edmonds, while Raheem Mostert followed McDaniel from San Francisco.

Michel’s never been a big-time pass catcher, and Miami has a superior receiving back in Edmonds.

Mostert’s shaky durability adds some upside to Michel. But for now, the 27-year-old is just a late-round stash.

Raheem Mostert, RB MIA

8:34am EDT 7/25/22

Raheem Mostert not ready for Week 1?

Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert (knee) "might not be ready for Week 1," according to ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques, because he's "still recovering from a late-season knee injury." That's news to us. Mostert had surgery in September to address a knee cartilage issue, but there had been no reports of a "late-season" injury. The 30-year-old has played in just 9 games over the past 2 seasons and is tough to like as more than a late-round flier in fantasy drafts. Dolphins RBs Chase Edmonds and Sony Michel are more attractive picks. We'll keep an eye on Mostert's status leading up to the opener.

Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert is still working back from the knee injury that ended his 2021 season after the 1st game. Mostert had surgery October 12 to address chipped cartilage around the meniscus in his left knee. "Rehab is going great! Close to 100%," he tweeted recently. We'll see whether Mostert can make it all the way back for the start of training camp.

Rams HC Sean McVay said Friday that RB Cam Akers (Achilles) is not likely to play vs. the Ravens this weekend. Akers wasn't a realistic fantasy option this week anyway, but his absence just makes RB Sony Michel an even bigger lock to dominate backfield work. Jake Funk will be Los Angeles' #2 RB.

Rams HC Sean McVay said RB Cam Akers (Achilles) could play vs. the Ravens this weekend. Akers was just designated to return to practice last week after his mid-July Achilles tear. The Rams were originally planning to get Akers back for the playoffs, but they have a need at the position with RB Darrell Henderson headed to IR. We'll see if Akers ends up active on Sunday, but we wouldn't expect him to see more than a few touches. Sony Michel should continue to dominate backfield work.

The Rams believe RB Darrell Henderson suffered a knee sprain in today's win over the Vikings, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "The hope is it’s minor, but he’ll have an MRI on Monday that will tell the full story," Rapoport adds. So we should learn more tomorrow. Henderson, though, is off the fantasy radar now that Sony Michel has taken over as the Rams' feature back.
