Bottom Line

Levis took over for Ryan Tannehill last year and was merely average. He locked in on DeAndre Hopkins and tried to navigate around a poor offensive line.

The Titans are clearly trying to support him by bringing in Calvin Ridley and Tony Pollard, so the offense will be more pass-oriented than last season.

New HC Brian Callahan has a great QB track record, so Levis has a chance to at least be an upside QB2 this year.

What We Learned Last Year

  • Levis was inactive through the first six weeks of the season. He started Week 7 after Ryan Tannehill suffered an ankle injury.
  • Levis missed two games due to injury.
    • Week 16 due to a right ankle injury suffered in Overtime the week before
    • Week 18 due to a right foot injury.
  • Levis’ scoring average in eight full games last year would have ranked 30th among QBs.
  • He had one top-12 finish. He had three QB25 or worse finishes.
  • His per-game averages were mediocre:
    • 58.4% completion rate
    • 200.9 yards
    • 0.89 TDs
    • 0.44 INTs
    • 7.0 adjusted yards per pass attempt
  • Among 45 QBs with 135+ dropbacks, Levis ranked:
    • 32nd in Pro Football Focus passing grade (61.6)
    • Sixth in Big Time Throw percentage (5.9%)
    • Sixth in Turnover Worthy Play percentage (4.5%)
    • 24th in Time to Throw (2.76 seconds)
    • 42nd in Completion Percentage Above Expectation (-3.2%)
  • Levis' 10.6 average air yards per pass attempt easily led all 32 qualifying QBs last year. (C.J. Stroud finished second at 9.0 yards.)
  • He played behind a poor O-line that ranked 25th in Pro Football Focus' pass-blocking grades.

What to Expect in 2024

  • Levis enters his second season on the Titans, but his first season with:
    • HC and play caller Brian Callahan
    • OC Nick Holz
  • The Titans invested in the offense around Levis by adding:
    • WR Calvin Ridley (FA)
    • RB Tony Pollard (FA)
    • OT JC Latham (first round)
  • The Titans are expected to perform similarly to last season. They are fourth in highest win total in the AFC South at 6.5 wins on most sportsbooks.
  • They also are tied for 27th in terms of highest Super Bowl odds at +15000 on most sportsbooks.
  • Levis enters his second season at age 25. According to our aging curve research, the average QB with Levis’ career and profile will produce at 95-97% of peak value in his age-25 season.

Will Levis out Wednesday

Titans QB Will Levis (foot) did not practice on Wednesday. He admitted that he's still dealing with soreness in that foot and seems unlikely to play in Sunday's meaningless finale vs. the Jaguars. We're projecting QB Ryan Tannehill to start that one.

Titans QB Will Levis (ankle) was a full-go in Wednesday's practice. That should have him on track to return for this weekend's game vs. the Texans. Levis has finished better than QB15 in only one of his eight starts. He's only in play in 2-QB and Superflex leagues.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirms that Titans QB Will Levis (ankle) is not expected to play vs. the Seahawks today. "He pushed to be on the field, practicing on Friday. But couldn't quite get there," Rapoport tweets. It sounds like Levis has a chance to be back for Week 17. QB Ryan Tannehill makes his first start since Week 6 today. He sports a better completion rate than Levis but a slightly lower yards per attempt. We're considering the switch from Levis to Tannehill a wash for Tennessee's offense.
