Basic Stats Preseason Player Analysis

What You Need to Know:

  • Despite losing 6 games to injury last year, Lazard saw his role grow when healthy. He drew a 9.1% target share in 2019 -- 12.2% from Week 6 on, the week of his 1st actual target. Over his 12 games last season (including the playoffs), Lazard got 14.9% of Green Bay targets.
  • He spent more time in the slot in 2020. Lazard ran 37.9% of his pass snaps from that spot in 2019. That climbed to 50.4% last season, making him Green Bay’s most frequent slot man.
  • According to Pro Football Focus, Lazard’s average depth of target dipped from 14.7 in 2019 to 11.4 last year. But his yards per route run increased from 1.50 to 1.84. That ranked 52nd among 140 WRs with 20+ targets last season. His yards per catch stayed near-identical: 13.7 in 2020 vs. 13.6 in 2019.
  • Lazard also bumped his catch rate from 67.3% to 71.7%.
  • Third-round rookie Amari Rodgers looks like Lazard’s biggest competition for inside work this season. Rodgers spent 82% of his 2020 snaps in the slot at Clemson. At 5’9, 212 pounds and with a below-average speed score for the position, Rodgers doesn’t appear built for outside work the way Green Bay’s current top 3 WRs are.
  • Lazard stands 6’5, 227 pounds.
  • He did struggle a bit with drops, doubling his drop rate from 7.3% in 2019 to 14.9% last year. That included 1 in each of Green Bay’s 2 playoff games. The drops shouldn’t be a big issue for his fantasy outlook as long as Lazard stays on the field, but there’s potential for that aspect to open a door to Amari Rodgers or land Lazard in Aaron Rodgers’ dog house.
  • Aaron Rodgers’ ultimate decision this offseason could factor heavily into whether we’re drafting Lazard at all.

Draft Sharks Bottom Line:

There’s little reason to bother with Lazard in current redraft settings. It’s too early to know how big a role Amari Rodgers might carve out, and we still have no idea what will happen with Aaron Rodgers. Lazard could be a late-round option come August, though, if Green Bay’s QB situation looks OK and Lazard remains clearly among the Packers’ top 3 wideouts. He ranked 2nd on the team in targets per game in 2020.

Packers WR Allen Lazard (core) is active for today’s game against the Colts. He’s expected to be on a snap count and isn’t a viable Week 11 fantasy play.

Packers WR Allen Lazard (core) is expected to play today vs. the Colts but will be on a "pitch count," according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Lazard has been sidelined since Week 3. So WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling remains a better fantasy bet than Lazard today -- but we're expecting Lazard to take back #2 WR duties before long.

Packers WR Allen Lazard (core) is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Colts. HC Matt LaFleur said earlier in the week that Lazard will be limited if he suits up for the 1st time since Week 3. He’s not a bankable fantasy play this week, but his return would add downside to WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Packers WR Allen Lazard (core) has been activated from IR. He'll presumably return for this weekend's game against the Colts. Lazard has been out since Week 3 but opened the season strong with lines of 4-63-1, 3-45 and 6-146-1. WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling has strung together a couple of nice outings, but we're still expecting Lazard to re-emerge as Green Bay's #2 WR.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that Packers WR Allen Lazard (core) is unlikely to play against the Jaguars this weekend. Lazard is reportedly still dealing with soreness and, as usual, Green Bay will be cautious bringing an injured player back. "Expect him back next week," Rapoport adds. Marquez Valdes-Scantling gets 1 more game as the Packers' #2 WR.
