Texans likely sticking with QB committee
Texans HC Lovie Smith wouldn't say for sure whether both QB Davis Mills and QB Jeff Driskel would play vs. the Chiefs this weekend, but it sure sounds like he's leaning in that direction. “I thought it was effective,” Smith said. “Two different flavors, and that’s always tough for a defense to prepare with what we were doing with them. As far as what we’re going to do this week going forward, we started evaluating and seeing what we need to do against another good division-leading Kansas City football team. We’ll see how that goes, but both quarterbacks were productive." Mills and Driskel split snaps right down the middle in last week's loss to the Cowboys. Mills completed 16 of 21 passes for 175 yards, 0 TDs and 1 INT. Driskel was more Taysom-Hill lite, going just 4-for-6 for 38 yards and a TD passing but running it 7 times for 36 yards. Of course, neither guy is an option at QB in any fantasy setup. But Driskel has TE eligibility on some platforms, putting him in play as a Week 15 flier.
Broncos QB-less for Week 12
Broncos QBs Drew Lock, Brett Rypien, Blake Bortles and Jeff Driskel are all ineligible to play against the Saints on Sunday due to COVID contract tracing concerns to Driskel, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. We'll see whether this game gets played tomorrow -- and what the hell Denver does on offense if it does. Insider Mike Klis throws out Kendall Hinton as an option at QB. He's on Denver's practice squad as a WR but was a 3-year starting QB at Wake Forest. This is a mess and you should try to avoid all Broncos in Week 12 fantasy lineups.
Lock "uncertain" for Week 11
Broncos QB Drew Lock is "uncertain" for Sunday's game against the Dolphins after suffering a rib injury in yesterday's loss to the Raiders, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Denver would turn to either Brett Rypien or Jeff Driskel under center if Lock is out. We'll watch his practice participation this week.
Rypien expected to start Week 4
NFL Network's James Palmer hears that Broncos QB Brett Rypien will start Thursday night's game against the Jets. Rypien stepped in for QB Jeff Driskel vs. the Bucs last week, completing 8 of 9 passes for 53 yards and a INT in mop-up action. The 2019 undrafted free agent was a 4-year starter at Boise State, where he completed 64% of his passes, averaged 8.4 yards per attempt and compiled 90 TDs vs. 29 INTs. Maybe you take a shot on Rypien in a plus matchup in 1-game DFS contests -- but he's not a legitimate option in season-long fantasy lineups.
Broncos add Bortles
The Broncos have signed QB Blake Bortles. QB Jeff Driskel will get the 1st crack at replacing the injured Drew Lock -- but Bortles could hit the field if Driskel struggles. Both Bortles and Driskel bring enough rushing upside to be QB2 considerations in fantasy.
