We were a little surprised to find Ngakoue this high in the rankings after finishing up the projections, but he's displayed the upside.
Last year just didn't fall in line with what we've seen from him in the past, and it's not hard to understand why he might have had a tough year. After holding out through the first few days of Jaguars camp, Ngakoue got traded to the Vikings on Aug. 30. Minnesota then traded him to the Ravens on Oct. 22.
So within a 2-month span, Ngakoue had to try to get comfy in 3 different defensive schemes. That's bound to challenge any player.
This offseason found the Raiders sign him to a semi-"prove it" deal. Ngakoue got $13 million a year, but on just a 2-year deal. Heading into just his age-26 season, he should be viewing this as an opportunity.
Vegas' investment says that Ngakoue will be a primary pass-rusher for a team that posted the league's 4th-lowest sack rate last year (and 8th lowest the season before).
The biggest question will be Ngakoue's playing time, which hovered in the 74-80% range over his final 3 seasons in Jacksonville. But he can deliver what we need with 60-65% playing time.
Know there's some risk on that front if you draft Ngakoue, and knock him down a little further if your league favors tackle scoring.
