Basic Stats Preseason Player Analysis

What You Need to Know:

  • Scott ranked just 70th in Pro Football Focus rushing grade among 142 RBs in 2020. That still beat Kerryon Johnson (103rd) and Jordan Howard (138th), competitors for 2021 playing time.
  • He fared better in receiving grade, checking in 38th among 154 targeted backs. That demolished Miles Sanders’ grade (68.1 vs. 33.9; 148th for Sanders).
  • The Eagles kept Scott around this season on a 1-year exclusive-rights free-agent tender, worth $920,000.
  • Philly also drafted Kenneth Gainwell in Round 5, picked Kerryon Johnson up off waivers and retained Jordan Howard after picking him up late last season.

Draft Sharks Bottom Line:

Philly has added some names to its backfield within the past year but hasn’t done much to bulk up the talent. Scott hasn’t wowed anyone but performed solidly as the #2 RB in 2020. He should face tougher role competition at least from Kenneth Gainwell this summer -- and perhaps throughout the season. There’s still a chance Scott hits September as Miles Sanders’ top backup, but don’t count on that in early drafts. Either way, he’s a low-value fantasy backup.

The Saints have released RB Boston Scott. The rookie looked like the #2 RB a few days ago but was deemed expendable after New Orleans added RB Mike Gillislee. It's now just Gillislee and Alvin Kamara in the backfield for Sunday's opener against the Bucs. We're expecting a hefty workload for Kamara and a pass-heavy game plan from the Saints. Gillislee figures to mix in for a handful of carries.

ESPN's Mike Triplett believes Saints RB Boston Scott will see playing time during RB Mark Ingram's 4-game suspension to open the season. Scott got the start in Thursday night's preseason finale and finished with 68 yards and a score on 12 carries. RB Jonathan Williams also played and ran it 16 times for 64 yards and a TD. "I don’t think it’s set in stone that Williams will be the clear-cut No. 2 RB behind Alvin Kamara to start the season," Triplett writes. "I think the timeshare between Williams and Scott could continue into the regular season after Scott has impressed in recent weeks and drawn praise from Sean Payton." The playing time split will be something to monitor in Week 1. We can't trust either guy in fantasy lineups to open the season.
