Basic Stats Preseason Player Analysis

What You Need to Know:

  • In his 3rd season with Washington, Sims logged 10 starts. Only Logan Thomas and Terry McLaurin tallied more among offensive skill-position players.
    • He failed to make the active roster out of camp in 2018 or 2019.
  • From Week 7 on, Sims played 74% of the snaps or more in every game. He cracked 80% in 10 of those 11 contests and played every snap in the final 3 (including the playoff loss to Tampa).
  • Sims posted 90+ receiving yards 3 times, including a 7-104 line on 13 targets in the loss to the Bucs.
  • Sims caught 5+ balls in 4 of the final 6 games.
  • He opened both 2019 and 2020 on Washington’s practice squad.
  • The team brought him back on a right-of-first-refusal restricted free-agent tender this offseason, worth $2.133 million. According to both Spotrac and OverTheCap, none of that salary is guaranteed.
  • Sims never caught more than 14 passes in a season across 4 years at Alabama.
  • Washington also signed WR Curtis Samuel and WR Adam Humphries in free agency and drafted WR Dyami Brown in Round 3.

What You Need to Know:

Sims pushed his way into relevance with a needy Washington pass offense in the 2nd half of last season. The fact that the Football Team tendered him at all as a restricted free agent says something. But so do all the additions they made at the position in the offseason. We’re open to the possibility that Sims holds down a top 3 or 4 spot in the 2021 WR corps. But we’re not heading into camp expecting him to be fantasy relevant.
