Week 4
Who’s the #2 WR in Los Angeles? You could argue that it’s Jefferson. He matched WR Robert Woods with 6 targets in Sunday’s loss to the Cardinals but caught more balls (6 to 4) and tallied more yards (90 to 48). Both guys caught a TD in this one, with Jefferson’s coming when he worked open in the end zone for a scrambling Matt Stafford.

Through 4 weeks, Jefferson has run just 8 fewer pass routes than Woods. Woods leads him 25 to 18 in targets -- but Jefferson has out-gained Woods 226 to 172, matched Woods with 2 TDs and tallied just 2 fewer catches. Jefferson also sits 37th in Pro Football Focus’ receiving grades among 96 qualifying WRs. Woods is down at 73rd.

We’d still bet on Woods scoring more fantasy points than Jefferson the rest of the way. But it looks a lot closer than it did a month ago. Jefferson is worth owning in most fantasy leagues, especially with bye weeks right around the corner.
Week 2
Jefferson was quiet in the box score Week 2, catching just 1 of 3 targets for 14 yards. And, frankly, he didn’t play well. He didn’t appear to be on the same page as QB Matt Stafford on their 1st missed connection. And the 2nd was a drop -- albeit on a low throw from Stafford.

But for the 2nd straight week, Jefferson was on the field a ton. He played 92% of the Rams’ offensive snaps and ran a route on all 32 of the pass plays. WR DeSean Jackson, meanwhile, played just 3 snaps and didn’t run a single route.

If that type of usage continues, Jefferson is bound to have a few more big games like he did in Week 1. He’s worth stashing in deeper leagues as a potential option when bye weeks start to hit.

The Rams selected Florida WR Van Jefferson in the 2nd round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Scouts consider Jefferson 1 of the top route runners in this class. “He’s got size, really good quickness and route savvy,” an anonymous scout told The Athletic’s Bob McGinn. “He can separate. He’s going to be a really good pro.” Jefferson’s college career got off to a strong start when he ranked top 3 on Ole Miss in catches (49), yards (543) and TDs (3) as a redshirt freshman — notably finishing ahead of A.J. Brown and D.K. Metcalf. He flattened out from there, though. Jefferson posted a 42-456-1 line in 2017 before transferring to Florida, where he totaled 84 catches, 1,160 yard and 12 TDs over the past 2 seasons. He posted weak market shares in 2019 and ranked 24th in yards per route run among 30 of this year’s top WR prospects. Jefferson is also already 23 years old and is currently sidelined after undergoing surgery to repair a Jones Fracture in his right foot. He joins Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp and Josh Reynolds in Los Angeles. Kupp and Reynolds are both set to be free agents after this season, while Woods is only signed through 2021.
