        Za'Darius Smith Retires

Eagles Edge Za'Darius Smith announced via Instagram late Monday morning that he's retiring from the NFL. Smith signed with the Eagles just after their narrow Week 1 victory over the Cowboys and played 38% of the defensive snaps over the ensuing five games. He contributed 1.5 sacks and 3 QB hits and leaves a position that has remained a weakness for Philly this season. Expect the Eagles to work the trade market for a solution, especially after Thursday night's embarrassing loss to the Giants.

The Eagles on Wednesday placed Edge Nolan Smith on IR after he tweaked the same triceps that he tore (and played through) in the Super Bowl victory over Kansas City. The designation knocks him out for at least the next four games.

The Lions are listing Edge Za'Darius Smith as questionable for Sunday night's game against the Texans. The team reportedly gave Smith two days off after his trade from Cleveland this week. He was listed as a full practice participant Friday but is understandably still learning the defense.

The Browns are trading Edge Za'Darius Smith to the Lions for a 2025 fifth-round pick and a late-round pick swap in 2026. Smith has 5 sacks and 7 QB hits through nine games. He joins a Detroit defense that has tallied 5 sacks over three games since Edge Aidan Hutchinson went down -- including just 1 total sack over the past two weeks.

The Browns have acquired Edge Za'Darius Smith from the Vikings for a mere swap of draft picks. Minnesota has been expected to move on from Smith this offseason to save salary cap. The 30-year-old rebounded from losing nearly all of 2021 to injury, racking up 80 total pressures in his lone Vikings season, according to Pro Football Focus. That marked the second-largest total of his career, and Smith has earned elite-level pass-rushing grades from PFF in each of his last three healthy campaigns. He should play lead snaps opposite Myles Garrett in Cleveland, though free-agent addition Ogbonnia Okoronkwo will factor into the rotation as well.
