Robert Tonyan still iffy for Week 1

Packers TE Robert Tonyan returned to 11-on-11 work on Sunday for the 1st time since tearing his ACL last October. But HC Matt LaFleur was non-committal when asked Monday whether Tonyan will be ready for Week 1. "It's a little early to say that right now," LaFleur said. "That was his first action in team periods. We'll see how he responds." Tonyan shouldn't be in your early-season fantasy plans, but he's capable of emerging as an asset later on.

Packers TE Robert Tonyan was activated from the PUP list on Sunday. Coming back from an ACL tear, Tonyan will be limited in the short term to individual work and walkthroughs, per HC Matt LaFleur. We’d temper early-season expectations for the veteran TE.

Packers TE Robert Tonyan told the Bussin' With the Boys podcast last week that his repaired knee "feels great." But Packers Wire reports that the team has given no updates on when Tonyan will actually come off the PUP and return to the field. Tonyan is working his way back from an Oct. 28 ACL tear.

Packers TE Robert Tonyan is opening training camp on the physically unable to perform list. He's just 9 months removed from the ACL tear that ended his 2021 season, so this is not a surprising designation. Green Bay can activate Tonyan from the camp PUP list at any time. We'll keep an eye on his progress.

Matt Schneidman of The Athletic writes that Packers TE Robert Tonyan “may not be ready to play Week 1.” Schneidman adds that he’d be surprised if Tonyan isn’t ready to play by Week 6. The veteran tore his ACL at the end of October, so he’ll be ~10.5 months removed from the injury come Week 1. Tonyan’s not a particularly desirable TE2, even if he’s ready for the opener.
