Let's just give you the language from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero: "The Chargers plan to hire Mike McDaniel as their offensive coordinator." That report stipulates that McDaniel remains in play for the HC positions in Baltimore and Las Vegas. But if he doesn't assume a head-coaching position, he'll apparently pilot the Chargers' offense.
What They're Saying
Pelissero: "No deal has been signed. A head coaching spot could still materialize. But the OC job Mike McDaniel wants is with Justin Herbert in L.A."
Fantasy Football Impact
Understandable.
McDaniel would get not only Herbert, but a second-year Round 1 RB in Omarion Hampton, an O-line returning two Round 1 OTs from injuries, and a strong corps of pass catchers.
Even if the Chargers purge veteran WR Keenan Allen ...
- Ladd McConkey remains.
- Quentin Johnston continued his rebound from a disappointing rookie year and heads into the final year of his rookie contract (pending a decision on the team option for Year 5).
- TE Oronde Gadsden flashed exciting upside as a fifth-round rookie.
- Second-round rookie WR Tre Harris grew his role late in the season.
The whole group would get an upside boost if McDaniel does arrive. We should find out soon whether this is confirmed.
