The Ravens had planned to have former Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia try out this weekend, but that plan changed Tuesday. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the team has instead signed Pavia to a three-year deal. That contract's unlikely to actually lock Pavia in with Baltimore for the next three years and probably won't even guarantee that he sticks around for this season. (Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team points out that "all undrafted free agent contracts are 3-year deals.") But the change likely indicates that the QB had other interested suitors.
What They're Saying
Dan Patrick: "Diego Pavia was a Heisman Trophy finalist. He did not get drafted. Now, there's a few reasons why. ... The message from the NFL was really clear: If you're not a can't miss prospect, professionalism is not just valued, it's required."
Former NFL DB Tyrann Mathieu, a guy who likely would have gone earlier in the 2013 draft if not for some off-field questions: "He's just a little bit sidetracked. He be on too many podcasts for me, too many UFC fights, too many drunk photos ... That's just not what people want to see at the next level. I think he's got a lotta cleaning up to do if he wants to go to the next level. ... You can have fun, you just gotta structure it a little better."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
Pavia likely went undrafted based on a combo of his diminutive size (5'10, 207 pounds), iffy arm strength for the pros, and maturity questions. But he lands in a good spot for his first shot.
The Ravens sport just Tyler Huntley behind Lamar Jackson on the current roster, with UDFA Joe Fagnano of UConn also competing.
That battle will likely wind up with Huntley backing up Jackson once again. But overtaking Huntley and his 13 career TD passes (vs. 10 INTs) wouldn't be impossible.
Pavia's not worth real rookie-draft attention, though you could look at him for a taxi-squad spot in particularly deep dynasty leagues.
