What You Need to Know:

  • Robinson re-signed a 1-year contract with the Chiefs in free agency. It’s a $1.13 million deal with less than $1 million guaranteed.
  • WR Byron Pringle got significantly more ($2.1 million) on his 2nd-round restricted free-agent tender.
  • The Chiefs also added 5th-round rookie WR Cornell Powell and return Mecole Hardman and, of course, Tyreek Hill.
  • Sammy Watkins, who ranked 3rd on the team with 5.5 targets per game last year, is gone.
  • Robinson has spent his first 5 NFL seasons with Kansas City. His 45 catches and 466 yards last year both marked career highs. He’s yet to top 4 TDs in a season.
  • In the 6 games Watkins missed last year, Robinson averaged 5 targets, 4.2 catches, 45 yards and .3 TDs.
  • Among 87 WRs with 50+ targets last year, Robinson ranked 52nd in yards per target, 81st in yards per route run and 76th in Pro Football Focus receiving grade.
  • Hill, Hardman and Watkins beat Robinson in yards per route run and PFF receiving grade last year. Robinson edged Watkins in yards per target.

Draft Sharks Bottom Line:

There’s some opportunity in Kansas City this year with the departure of WR Sammy Watkins, who averaged 5.5 targets per game. But Robinson simply hasn’t shown much in 5 seasons with the team.

We’ll see how the depth chart behind Tyreek Hill shakes out between Robinson, Mecole Hardman, Byron Pringle and rookie Cornell Powell this summer. But we’re not holding our breath for a 6th-year breakout from Robinson.

The Chiefs re-signed WR Demarcus Robinson to a 1-year deal. Despite playing with QB Patrick Mahomes, Robinson hasn't reached 500 yards in any of the last 3 seasons. There's a chance he sees a bigger target share in 2021 if Kansas City doesn't bring back WR Sammy Watkins, but we still wouldn't expect Robinson to emerge as a reliable fantasy option without an injury to WR Tyreek Hill or TE Travis Kelce

Chiefs WR Demarcus Robinson has been activated from the COVID list and is eligible to play in the Super Bowl. He figures to be 4th in the WR pecking order behind Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman and Sammy Watkins.

Chiefs WR Demarcus Robinson has been placed on the COVID list. He's reportedly there only as a close contact, which gives him a chance to be cleared in time for the Super Bowl. Even with WR Sammy Watkins out for Kansas City's 2 playoff wins so far, Robinson has only caught 1 of 3 targets for 14 yards.

The Chiefs have agreed to a 1-year deal to keep WR DeMarcus Robinson, ESPN reports. The 25-year-old must not have found much interest on the open market. He returns to an offense that has allowed him to increase receptions and yards per catch each of the past 3 years. Robinson will have trouble continuing that trend in WR Mecole Hardman's 2nd season, with Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce and Sammy Watkins also still around. Robinson's return also complicates the outlook for Hardman. Robinson was still playing more snaps than the rookie in the playoffs. We'll take Hardman easily over Robinson in 2020 fantasy football drafts, though. The youngster's speed gives him much more fantasy-scoring upside.

The Chiefs went with WR Demarcus Robinson in the 4th round of the 2016 draft. Robinson’s college career at Florida was marred by 4 suspensions. He posted a 53-810-7 line in 2014 but dropped to 47-520-2 this past year. Robinson goes 6’1, 203 pounds with a SPARQ score in the 55th percentile, so there’s some upside here. He’ll battle with Chris Conley and Albert Wilson for playing time behind Jeremy Maclin.
