Basic Stats Full Player Fantasy Analysis

What You Need to Know:

  • Watkins’ 2020 brought up more injury woes. He played 10 games, giving him 14 missed games over the past 3 seasons. He missed time with hamstring and calf injuries in 2020.
  • Those issues clearly affected his performance. Watkins posted just 38-434-2 on a high octane Chiefs offense. He forced only 2 missed tackles all year, per Pro Football Focus.
  • Once a downfield threat, Watkins managed an average depth of target of just 8.1 yards — a career-low.
  • After a strong Week 1 against a bad Houston secondary (7-82-1), Watkins reached double digit PPR points in just 3 of his final 9 regular season games.
  • Healthy seasons from Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce squashed Watkins’ chance of an expanded role.
  • A 2020 free agent, Watkins visited with the Colts but ultimately signed with Baltimore in late March. He inked a 1-year deal at $5 million with another $1 million available through incentives.
  • In April, Baltimore used a Round 1 pick on Minnesota’s Rashod Bateman and a 4th rounder on Oklahoma State’s Tylan Wallace. Bateman brings polished route-running and a pro-ready game to the Ravens.
  • Moving from Patrick Mahomes to Lamar Jackson certainly brings a pure passing downgrade. With Marquise Brown and Mark Andrews already filling the depth chart, targets figure to be scarce here.
  • OC Greg Roman returns for his 3rd season in the same role. His offenses ranked last in pass attempts in ’19 and ’20.

Draft Sharks Bottom Line:

Watkins no longer looks like the explosive guy from several years ago. We might be optimistic if he landed in a better spot, but there simply aren’t many targets to go around Baltimore’s passing game.

Unless you’re in a deep best ball league, Watkins is just a watch-list candidate.

Ravens WR Sammy Watkins (thigh) is out for Sunday's game vs. the Chargers. WR Rashod Bateman, meanwhile, is expected to make his NFL debut this weekend, HC John Harbaugh said Friday. OC Greg Roman suggested earlier in the week that Bateman would be on a snap count, so we'd try not to use the rookie in Week 6 fantasy lineups.

Ravens WR Sammy Watkins did not practice on Wednesday. He's on the injury report with a thigh, rather than the hamstring injury that was announced during Monday night's win over the Colts. Either way, Watkins is clearly in danger of missing this weekend's game vs. the Chargers.

Ravens WR Sammy Watkins injured a hamstring in the 1st half of Monday night's game vs. the Colts and did not return. We'll look for further updates on his status. Ravens 1st-round rookie WR Rashod Bateman seems close to debuting after August core-muscle surgery.

Ravens WR Sammy Watkins (undisclosed) returned to practice on Wednesday. He missed over a week of action but appears on track for Week 1. The 28-year-old could supply some deep league value early on while Rashod Bateman is sidelined.

Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic writes that Ravens WR Sammy Watkins looks “fresh, explosive, motivated and more importantly, healthy” early in training camp. Zrebiec also noted his the veteran’s ability to get open and make plays “all over the field.” This jives with OC Greg Roman’s recent comment about Watkins being “one of the best receivers in the NFL.” Volume is an obvious concern for the run-heavy Ravens. Watkins, though, is essentially free as the WR77 in FFPC best balls.
