Quiet Role Growth for Tre Harris

Chargers second-round rookie WR Tre Harris opened the year not only trailing the team's top three at the position. He played just five Week 1 snaps vs. 14 for fifth-round classmate KeAndre Lambert-Smith. But that has flipped over the past two weeks, with Harris claiming the No. 4 role in the WR corps. Harris played a season-high 25 snaps in Sunday's win over the Broncos but finished with just one target and no catches.

Chargers WR Quentin Johnston took a big hit in Saturday's preseason game against the Rams. He appeared to be unconscious at least briefly. A stretcher was brought out for Johnston, but he was eventually able to walk off the field and get carted to the locker room.

Update: Johnston suffered a concussion and was taken to a hospital as a precaution, HC Jim Harbaugh said after the game.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Chargers have signed veteran WR Keenan Allen to a one-year, $8.52 million deal.

Chargers WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith caught both of his targets for 43 yards and a TD in Thursday night's Hall of Fame Game against the Lions. The rookie won on a 'go' route down the right sideline early in the first quarter for a 28-yard gain. Then he (literally) left his defender grasping for air on a slant route in the second quarter for a 15-yard TD.

WR Mike Williams has informed the team that he's retiring, according to multiple reports. That ends an eight-year career that spanned three teams. Williams had signed a one-year contract this offseason to return the Chargers. That included just $3 million in salary, but it was all guaranteed. So he appeared on track to play it out. Williams split 18 games between the Jets and Steelers last season but totaled only 21 receptions and 1 TD. The Chargers had placed him on the physically unable to perform list for the start of this year's training camp, though the cause had been vague.
