Week 2
In the Chargers’ 2nd-generation secondary, Asante Samuel Jr. had an INT and 3 passes defensed and Nasir Adderley led the team with 8 tackles and an assist. LA had only 1 sack, shared between Derwin James and Jerry Tillery. The Cowboys did a good job neutralizing DE Joey Bosa in the running game and the pass rush.

Want to bet against Bosa’s bouncing back with a more effective effort this week? They’ll need him at Kansas City on Sunday in a battle against those trying to keep him away from QB Patrick Mahomes.

The Chargers have ruled LB Drue Tranquill out for Sunday's game at Baltimore with a chest injury. S Nasir Adderley is questionable with a hip injury. We'll update his status Sunday morning. Tranquill's absence should make Kyzir White a good bet to lead Chargers LBs in playing time and tackles.

The Chargers held practice Wednesday without EDGE Joey Bosa (foot, ankle) and S Derwin James (toe). James played every defensive snap in Sunday's loss to the Cowboys, and Bosa matched his Week 1 allotment (82%), so we're guessing neither is a serious issue. But we'll watch their participation levels through the week.

Chargers CB Chris Harris Jr. is out for Sunday's game against the Cowboys with a shoulder injury. That leaves L.A. without its top cover man and primary slot corner. Dallas WR Cedrick Wilson likely stands to benefit the most. With Michael Gallup out, Wilson will serve as the #3 wideout and played 85% of his pass snaps in the slot in Week 1.

The Chargers have named Brandon Staley their new HC. The 38-year-old has been a fast riser, going from a LBs coach in Chicago and Denver to Rams defensive coordinator to Chargers HC in just 5 years. Staley's 2020 Rams defense was better than Wade Phillips' 2019 unit in points allowed, total yards allowed, yards per play allowed and Football Outsiders' DVOA. This at least looks like a good hire for the Chargers defense. We'll see who joins Staley to run the offense.

The Chargers have fired HC Anthony Lynn. He cost his team multiple chances to win this season with poor in-game management. Lynn finishes his 4-year run with the Chargers with a 33-31 record but went just 12-20 over the past 2 seasons. Whoever takes over this team will be working with a strong core in QB Justin Herbert, RB Austin Ekeler and WR Keenan Allen -- plus a talented defense.
