Chargers S Derwin James hasn't played since Week 3 because of a hamstring injury. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that James will miss more time after suffering a setback in his recovery. HC Jim Harbaugh reportedly said the veteran safety might land on IR. That indicates the team doesn't like James' chances of returning within the next four weeks.
2026 Fantasy Football Impact: Not Much IDP Upside Here
S Tony Jefferson has seen elevated playing time in James' absence but hasn't played more than 76% of the snaps in any game this season. He also hasn't exceeded 5 total tackles or 3 solos in the three games James has missed so far.
We'll see whether the Chargers alter their approach coming out of their Week 7 bye, but the plan so far has seemed to be spreading the playing time around rather than elevating a direct fill-in for James.
That's not a particularly helpful strategy for IDP usage. Look elsewhere for your DB answers.
